controller dilema
controller dilema Posted on: 13.05.2012 by Katelyn Hoctor im looking to buy a 4 deck controller ideally that has analogue mixer ability on at least 2 channels, works with traktor to scratch to some degree, has minimum of 4 cue point assignable buttons, and sample deck control and if possible loop recorder mapped.my budget is around | |
Breanne Mucker 29.06.2012 | Would like your assistance with figuring this out. I have an NI audio 4 sound card. Looking to purchase either the vms4 traktor edition or the numark 4 trak which I would prefer. I want to be able to run DVS with either of these through the unit and still be able to control 4 decks, two DVS and two midi using the audio 4 and the controller. Is this possible or would I need the audio 8 to make this work. As I believe about this if it is possible to have all 4 decks working with the audio 4 how would I route the cables. the audio 4 into the phono jacks of the controller and then what about the usb of the audio 4 where would that go as I assume the usb from the controller would have to go into the computer. Would really appreciate your assistance, trying to figure this out the legal way.

Katelyn Hoctor 28.06.2012 | JSM is correct i had all sorts of glitches with a hacked copy of traktor pro 2 but since i went legit ive had no problems at all and loving my reloop contour IE and VCI-100 with midi fighter custom setup tho looking at getting an external mixer in the near future and keeping the vci for small gigs |
Faustino Stringfellow 28.06.2012 | 4 decks would require at least an Audio 8 (4xDVS). but it seems like you want to aggregate the numark and the A4DJ ... this whilst is possible it will stop the DVS from working. I would sell the ADJ4, buy and Audio8 and a 4 channel controller with no soundcard, or a true 4 channel controller thats certified by NI (expensive route). The problem you face is the limitation of the software, it will only allow DVS through certified devices. If you use ASIO4ALL to combine devices, it stops the DVS system. Obviously you will see a plethora of youtube vids telling you other ways of doing it, but they are hacks or use pirated software, if this is a serious hobby or you want to make some money from it, don't take the risk with dodgy software, i did that when i first started with digital ... and in front of a lot of people it started to go wrong making me look like a fool. Have you considered selling the A4DJ and perhaps moving over to the S4 ... it's just right ... no messing around, no hacks, patches or heartache .... I have mine out in 35C all day on the beach, then into the club at evening for a steamy session ... and it's just works. |

Faustino Stringfellow 14.05.2012 | http://www.thomann.de/gb/numark_n4_b_stock.htm not sure where you are, but here's a cheaper option for you |
Katelyn Hoctor 14.05.2012 | having just looked at the dj angelo blog ive noticed hes using a NI soundcard with the jockey for DVS control so i shall have dvs as a long term goal as the jockey 3 can be used as a stand alone mixer so i could use vinyl in a conventional way |
Faustino Stringfellow 14.05.2012 | Some people will argue that the VMS is amazing etc. seriously it's not and you end up hating the thing after only a few days. The Reloop has to be better, i say this as I used a fair bit of reloop gear as I travelled (especially in Germany ??) But for the budget you have (and remember it can't do NI DVS timecode) go for the N4. They have made kit like this for a while and have a fair bit of support amongst semi-pro DJ's, I've had a bit of their gear in the past, it's at the lower end but by no way cheap. BUT before you buy anything, go to your local store and test them, take a selection of you tracks and YOUR laptop, headphones etc. I emphasise YOUR because the stores units will most likely be fine tuned or have a different set-up to you. I believe the best unit for you would be the N4, it seems it tick the right boxes, stay clear of the VMS |
Katelyn Hoctor 14.05.2012 | ive almost decided to go with the reloop jockey 3 although its just out my price range currently, but from your advise JSM im better off with the numark N4 than i would be with the VMS4.1? |
Faustino Stringfellow 14.05.2012 | You also mention the VMS4.1 ...don't let price be the judge of your buying ... I've had two VMS's, they were absolutely terrible, the new ones manage to keep their paint on, but they haven't really improved the sound, just the VOLUME ..not the quality. ReLoop have got to be better and Numark have been building good kit for decades. Just to state the obvious again, IF YOU WANT TIMECODE/DVS LEGALLY and you want to use Trakor, then you will need at least an AUDIO4DJ, the cheapest 2 deck DVS solution, AUDIO8DJ = 4 deck DVS, Audio6 - 2 decks plus loop recorder, Audio10 4 decks plus loop recorder. The S2 hasn't got inputs, but the S4 does (I can run 2xDVS decks plus loop and samples) http://www.native-instruments.com/#/...?category=1315 |

Katelyn Hoctor 13.05.2012 | i wasnt trying to envoke a debate just trying to get advise and with regards to your statement please enlighten me as i find it hard to believe 'dj angelo' would during reloops jockey 3 showcase use timecode vinyl through the interface alone without NI soundcard as this controller is not 'scratch certified' he wouldnt be using illegal software given his reputation and following in the professional world |
Tatum Ansaldo 13.05.2012 | Can we not have the traktor scratch interface debate again please? LEGAL traktor scratch software will only work with NI sound cards and certified mixers. End of. |
Katelyn Hoctor 13.05.2012 | the n4 isnt scratch certified but does work for timecode and the vms4 ive seen a Japanese guy using timecodes on it but unsure if he had them routed via a NI soundcard, i like the N4 but must be honest i prefer the 4 midilog and metal construction of the vms4.1, another on my list maybe the reloop jockey 3 tho this is a little higher than my original price |
Chasidy Heckenbach 13.05.2012 | you could use a NI soundcard for timecode and route the audio into the analog inputs in those controllers - if they have analog channels - didn't believe they were scratch certified to use for timecode by themselves |
Katelyn Hoctor 13.05.2012 |
none of the above will work with traktor Scratch Pro ...the NI timecode requires either NI hardware or a scratch CERTIFIED mixer.....
tho if i could afford the route of NI sound card for timecode i would but id prefer to mainly use controller but have the back up of analogue ability. |
