Firewire 800 to usb converter?

Hey Guys,

Quick Question...

My 2 usb 2.0 ports on my macbook pro have stopped working, I have tried everything and nothing is getting them to work. I figure i will have to have it professionally fixed, which isn't a problem.

I'm having a lot of university work to do right now so i cant get my laptop fixed for a couple of weeks.

For the mean time I'm looking for a temporary fix, which a firewire 800 to usb converter would be ideal.

I've looked online for a converter but cant really find anything.

Anyone know if these converters are possible, and if so where i could purchase one in the UK.

I just need one port for my external webcam for live streaming my mixes.

Cheers

I assume you mean USB hub. If so, how is that going to work if he hasn't got a working USB port on his Macbook?

Firewire and USB talk different languages so there is no such thing as a passive converter (I know you can find a few on ebay), you would need something that acts as the middle man and translate the different protocols. I'm almost certain these don't exsist but I'd love to be proven wrong.

I did look for this recently too, since I wanted another USB port and not use a hub. Ultimately, they are different interfaces with different protocols.

As far as I could tell, you can't get a box that will convert USB to firewire that would enable a DJ controller to be plugged in. You can get a Network USB hub that would let you to plug a HDD or printer into it and then communicate wirelessly with your laptop.

Traktor, etc looks at the USB ports, not firewire, so no way I'm afraid for those
