Buying stuff when you have absolutely no need of it
Buying stuff when you have absolutely no need of it Posted on: 10.10.2013 by Monroe Vandeslunt Lets share some stories about...when you bought stuff you really didn't need for your setup OR You want stuff right now that you really don't need Heres mine... I've found a deal to buy a Xone DB4 for less than the price of a Pioneer DJM 900. I currently have a Xone:22. It would be a huge upgrade but... I don't need it! Yet I so want | |

Norris Swartzfager 02.11.2013 | For some reason I want vestax pdx's while I have a pair of technics and a Z2 (not a four channel mixer). I don't know why but they haunt my thoughts on an almost daily basis. |

Lillia Datson 31.10.2013 | Im glad i'm not alone in this endeavour! The worst part is i could boil it all down to a few key bits of kit, but then i'm always believeing "I might need that for this/what else could i do with this" Cursed. All of it. |
Lakeesha Storman 01.11.2013 | You can make sounds similar to Komplete 9 in Live 9 Suite with a number of software synths you already own. Good enough? |
Maryam Fevold 01.11.2013 | Someone talk me out of buying Komplete 9. I have Live 9 suite, but I feel like the sounds I've heard coming from Komplete 9 are just too good to pass up! |
Lannie Kutay 30.10.2013 | Um yeah everything I go visit my parents they ask me if I'm still wasting my life away buying stuff I don't need..... Yup Probably have close to 3k worth of stuff I have touched once and just sitting in the box because I thought I needed it. |
Lakeesha Storman 30.10.2013 | Just got my birthday present. Tech 1210 MK2's. I really don't _need_ them, but sometimes it's hard to distinguish between need and want really freakin bad. I need to thank my ex for divorcing me and leaving me with disposable income. |
Dannie Dimora 15.10.2013 | I bought a ddj-sx, an upgrade from a hercules control mp3 e2. Do i regret it? Kind of. More limitations make you believe more about what you are going to put in your set. When i overgrew the standard hercules, i learned to code in VDJ to make my own mappings. And quite honestly, i was more creative with the hercules then than i am now with my ddj-sx. But i guess it's just a part of moving on, i love my SX now, and i love how serato is limited compared to traktor. Because if i chose traktor as my to-go platform, now i'd probably have an s4 laying in the corner of my room, instead of having a residency. |
Olene Minyard 14.10.2013 | I'm going through it at the moment. Have an S4 and using Traktor Pro 2 but I have this nagging intrigue about Serato DJ in my head making me want to buy new hardware and try a Serato setup out. Might buy a cheap second hand Twitch ti get it out of my system, as opposed to the Pioneer DDJ-SX that I have been eyeing up! |
Isa Erik 14.10.2013 | I once waited for a bus @ a bus stop and since i had time, decided to look inside a fishing/hunting store that was behind it (needed a birthday present for my father). Needless to say, I exited the store with a full on, 5mm diving suit. I don't dive. It's still in my closet. |

It takes a sick individual to spend $700 plus on ANYTHING every 6 months.
|
Klara Kinnebrew 14.10.2013 | I have had this problem my whole life with tech gear because Im a super big geek. Now put that on top of the fact that I have been DJing less then a year and you have a real problem. I love buying new gear. I pay full retail for a new phone like once every 6 months. It takes a sick individual to spend $700 plus on a phone every 6 months. |
Petra Arra 13.10.2013 | I bought 1 pro dslr, 1 gopro, 1 pro lens, 1 tripod, 1 midi keyboard, 1 controller (sold), 1 traktor a6, 1 traktor f1, 1 mixer, 1 turntable, 1 samsung phone, and a few records in a span of 6 months. I want to buy another TT but my wife told me that I need to play in a club first before I can buy one, and I just started. That would take years. so I believe it would be one temporary solution for my RGAS. I'm lucky my wife haven't left me yet. |
Golden Faubert 13.10.2013 | i was bored last week, and inevitably the RGAS kicked in, so i built a production desktop, i should add, i'll never use it! but i couldnt help myself |
Lina Rawie 12.10.2013 | I used to buy a lot of stuff on a whim - mostly gadgets and electronic goods more than DJ gear. I haven't done that in a long time though. Any time I believe about buying something expensive, I believe "do I really need this?" and let it sit for a while. Often, the answer is eventually "no". My original DJ setup was 2 decks and a 2 channel mixer and it still is today, many years later, just different decks and a different mixer. My attitude with DJ gear is basically "I can potentially do a shit load of stuff with a basic setup, so I should really try and master that, only adding stuff if it's absolutely necessary". I'm a long way off from mastering using a basic DJ setup still. Sometimes I see pics of people's setups and they have a room full of gear, with a 4 channel mixer, decks, CDJs, a MIDI pad/controller etc., then I listen to their mixes and believe "I could make that on my setup". |
Roy Houn 12.10.2013 | i almost bought a z2 just cos one day i thought they look decent, even tho i have the s4 and dont need the z2, hell i dont even dj outside of my house haha, just what can i say i love djing and it will never go away... |
Candy Vardy 12.10.2013 | RGAS has bitten me hard, but I do believe that it' starting to calm down a bit. Coming from a HP and a RMX, and now currently to a MBP, DJM 900, and X1 mk2 + sl 1210's? RGAS!!! |
Temple Cervelli 12.10.2013 | I want an Launchpad, really believeing about buying one, believeing that it might make me start using Ableton properly, though I do not need one nor do I need to start using ableton, it's a virus to buy buy buy |

...and some custom 1210s
PM me.
..gold plated headshells you say?
|
Dione Haimes 11.10.2013 | Im cured, as long as i stay away from DJM2000's and the upgrade to the RMX stays just a thought in pioneers head but i could do with a nice rane 62 and some custom 1210s ..and a bigger producing monitor ..and maybe a custom desk ..that new CV colour looks nice ..and maybe some RAM ..gold plated headshells you say? |
Cody Mcnall 11.10.2013 | I recently jsut upgraded my S2 and Maschine Mikro to the S4 MKII and Maschine MKII....I dont feel that guilty anymore but the Maschine Studio is coming out next month and I cant stop believeing about it lol....After seeing what NI did with the Screens I would be surpised if an S6 came out in a year! ...also found this pretty funny article on music radar about G.A.S. http://www.musicradar.com/news/guita...me-585947/8#!4 |
Lilliana Perris 11.10.2013 | I was Cured of RGAS.... True Story. I thought about what i wanted in terms of a controller and what would be the next features possibly added to the software and decided on the APC80. Got TT's and Mixer with Innofader....so its the best of both worlds. Old School and Controller with colour buttons and lots of faders. Learned how to map my functions and ... CURED! |
Dione Haimes 11.10.2013 | I bought an RMX1000 cos i seen Jordan Suckley use one once. |
Ashanti Andreacchio 11.10.2013 | I bought a set of Roland V-Drums back in 98 for over $8k never played drums before and did absolutely not need them as I was programing all my drums at that time (I've since become an ok drummer). Also bought a Ensoniq Paris HD recorder was about $5k I needed that one but still. I've done some impulse buying with DJ gear and lights too. But happy to say I'm almost cured until next must have thing comes around. Lucky the Beheringer controllers did not come out within a month after they were announced I would have bought them all even if I don't need them, now I know I don't need them and the lust has settled |
Brunilda Kora 11.10.2013 | There is a cure - spending an absolute FORTUNE, in the hope that better gear = a better DJ. Once you learn the lesson that the shiny new gear doesn't make you a better DJ, AND you're surviving off rice and noodles for 2 months, the RGAS SLOWLY starts to subside... For some... |
Dione Haimes 11.10.2013 | Yup. Its called RGAS, Theres no cure |
Latoria Kavulich 11.10.2013 | Gold plated iPhone |
Lakeesha Storman 11.10.2013 | I continually look on craigslist and ebay for "bargain" turntables, then research the hell out of them, only to finally come to the conclusion that I don't need to drop the ching on tables at this point. But I really freakin want some! I also went to guitar center the other day for a 25 key MIDI controller. I've got a 49 key for production, but it's big and it's a bit of a pain to use on my couch while watching TV. Fortunately, the controller I was looking at on guitar center's website (said $99) was priced at $199 at the actual store which was what I needed to not be lazy and just move my 49 key around for now. |
Petra Arra 10.10.2013 | I wanted to get my feet wet into dj/production so i bought a midi keyboard and a dj controller. I wanted to do finger drumming but i bought a traktor f1 instead of a midi fighter. so now i have a barely used f1 and midi keyboard, i sold my dj controller to get a TT, mixer and a6. (I find that I like this set up more and music soothes me after a hard day at work) |
Sonja Roybal 10.10.2013 | When I get that feeling, I buy tunes. |
