Recommending a bag for my gear
Posted on: 25.08.2012 by Isabelle Inscore
I'm on the look out for a bag for my gear. I sold my old setup and I'm in the process of upgrading my setup. I looking for recommendations of bags that might fit all of this.

Kontrol S4/VCI-400 SE
Laptop
MF3D
Kontrol F1(in case)
Maschine
Audio 6/8 soundcard
CD Wallet
Headphones
Wires
External HDD
Flashlight
2 x 16Gb USB(latest firmware, DJTT emergancy DJ kit and a large selection of tracks)

I know the flashlight and USB's don't take up much room but would like for the bag to have a nice size pocket where I could put them along with a sharpie, business cards and other small miscellaneous items so that they're easy to find. I can pick up a used DJTT Mono Kontroller bag for about

Is it the DJTT mono bag your talking about. If so than ya there's no hope I'm fitting a Maschine in there with the rest of my gear

It's got a slightly less dense version of the main compartments padding, but is still fairly robust.

I have no idea if you are going to be able to take it in overhead. It's a VERY big bag, and I have no idea what the dimensions for hand luggage is (I haven't flown in years). I'd see if you can find one to take a look at to judge.
That's sounds great. I like to keep my gear well protected. I just found info about it on a site that sells it and it stats that it is suitable for hand luggage. Woohoo

I was able to fit my S4, laptop, X1, Maschine, headphones and still had PLENTY of room left over. If you can find one nearby, I'd recommend giving it a go.

Picked mine up for a bit under $110 Australian Dollars.
I checked this bag out before but didn't believe it would be big enough. It sounds perfect if you could fit all that in there. Did you fit all this into the main compartment? I took a look at it and I could fit my external and soundcard into both of the side pockets and my small miscellaneous items such as USBs, flashlight etc into the smaller front zip pocket. If you got all your stuff into the main compartment and still had plenty of space left over then I should prob fit a MF3D in there too. Is the bag compact enough to take as hand luggage on a plane?

That thing is an absolute tank. There ain't no gear getting damaged in that thing. The needles and and battle records are for later down the line. I've never had turntables but I want to get them to use as time codes. Due to the fact that I'm emigrating next year when I graduate I'm trying to keep my gear small enough so that I can take it with me. Don't want the hassle of trying to sell turntables before I leave. They will have to wait till I get setup in my new home next year. Definitely want to invest in them and learn how to use them though

I mostly use it for adding samples, loops, and FX to my sets. I don't really make "songs" out of the loops though.

I get my Remix Sets from NI and http://remixdeckset.com
Sometimes I make my own though..

I don't know. All I know is I'm perfectly happy with my S4 + F1. I don't see myself using anything else. Except maybe a maschine in the near future.

All the midifighters just don't have that "professional" look to me. I'm a mobile DJ though so maybe it's different.

I believe I'm gonna just have to go with putting the maschine into the laptop holder and carry my laptop separately in it's laptop bag. I'll just have to work something out when I fly. Thanks for the input so far guys. If anyone knows of any other bags please let me know. I want to have a few options to compare in size and price

You're asking a lot for a single bag. Here is the one I currently use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Musicians-Ge...item1e704e3fbd

You MAY be able to fit all of that in there. I have filled it with my S4, two 15" laptops, an x1, wires, and headphones before. If you run something along the size of a 13" laptop, I believe it's very do-able.

Also very heavy... I got a small laptop bag to help redistribute the weight through two bags. Much more manageable that way. I believe you're better off with two bags... Just claim one is your "personal item."

The Pelican is a beast. It's also quite expensive and heavy.

Will look into it more if I do decide to get it. Would use the F1 to control the remix deck on deck D. Plan on using the MF3D to control effects etc. I know I could use the MF3D to control the remix deck also but would prefer to keep that solely for effects, cue points, looping etc.

Everything else is in there for backup purposes. If I go into a DJ booth that has cdj 1000's I'll need the soundcard to use Traktor. Need the cd's in case the laptop crashes in this situation. Need the USB's in case I go into a Booth that has cdj 850/900/2000 and the external so that I always have my full collection of music just so that I'm prepared for any situation. Everything else there is pretty much essential ie. laptop, flashlight, wires, headphones

I'm hoping someone knows of a bag that can hold all of this comfortably as I don't want to stuff too much in and have the gear getting damaged or the bag breaking. Ya it's quite a bit for one bag alright. To be honest I kinda want to avoid getting the S4 flightcase if possible as I believe it will be easier to carry around in the backpack. I haven't got all this gear yet as I'm in the process of upgrading so I don't even know if I'll end up getting it all. I mightn't get the Maschine in the end. I know most of the XL bags will prob hold the rest of the gear but I'd like to be prepared in case I do get the Maschine. I don't even know is there a bag big enough to hold all this.
