Studio headphone: Sennheiser HD25-II or KRK KNS8400? Which and why?

Hi,

Looking for a dedicated studio headphone for producing. Its either or. Ive already ordered the SD25s, but now a few people telling me to get the KNS 8400s instead.

Thoughts please?

01.09.2012		For the studio everyone raves about these, well over non-neutral cans like HD25s or TMA1s. If I was getting seriously into producing I'd get these in a heartbeat ... I might get them anyway; they're only $133 on amazon and they have them in white! The TMA studios will be cool but they'll be bass heavy like their DJ headphones, or at least that's what the reviews are saying.

IMHO, neutral monitors are sort of a hold over from a different era when the first time you heard your track outside the studio, it had already been pressed. But now, you can crank out samples and try it on all different speakers and sources. So there is no need to get it perfect in the studio. Neutral speakers still have their place, but they are far less important these days. But of course, like I said it depends on your style, if you are obsessed with every little nuance from start to finish, then you will probably also be obsessed with neutral monitors. Some guys are little more wild and free and just crank it out, then clean up the sounds later.\

For example, some people like to hear booming bass and colored tones when producing so they can really get into it. It doesn't matter how accurate it is at this point in the production, you just want to crank out some bad-ass sounds/beats.

As Hoodless said, they are good DJ headphones, but they won't give you the neutral, uncoloured sound you want for music production.
