The idea of this thread is to show my improvement from being a newbie to, hopefully, a professional DJ.

Hello!
First of am I going to introduce myself. My name is Jens and I live in Sweden (therefore my, sometimes, horrible english). I'm 21 years old and a electronic music-freak. I love go out clubbin' and listen to a good DJ. This spring/beginning of summer I decided to start to DJ and bought my own Digital DJ gear. It began with my awesome girlfriend that bought me a Oxygen25 (Oxygen 8v3) as a birthday present. After a summer of hard work I today own a 2-channel mixer from vestax, a pair of really big speakers (that i already owned before this summer), Audio4DJ and a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000.

So after a busy summer I finally have some time for practice DJing. In this thread I'm therefore going to post my mixes to get feedback and later on look back to see my improvements.

Hope you'll enjoy and want to help on my way to become a better DJ!

ok, first of all i believe you should keep practicing with a small selection of tracks, i made the biggest progress in the beginning when i was just fucking around with 20-30 tracks over and over again and slowly started picking up things as i realized certain things i did with those tracks just sounded better than the other things

another thing, i dont personally recommend using the mixed in key.. it provides some good help but if you dont, in a long run your ear will develop to a point where you can tell which tracks sound good together and that skill makes your mixes sound far better than mixed in key would

And for the problem you said you have with hearing things differently in your head than they actually go, the best advice i can give you is to practice the same transitions over and over and doing different stuff with the EQ.. im too tired atm to write a 50 page essay on when to bring in the HI and when to take out the LO etc, just try different things yourself and you will pick up on things.. i recommend you watch these tutorials on some basic stuff and have fun while learning and trying things out

Dude... Why would I spend 30 minutes on this when you already said it sucks? Put time and preparation into your music before you hit up people with it.

Your mixing isn't bad, I don't like edm so no comments on song selection. Everything sounds ok to me!

So here's my first mixtape!

I just downloaded a few new tracks from beatport. This is a mix containing those. Did'nt even run them trough Mixed in Key or anything so I just played them trough as a single take.

This is also my first all completed recorded mixtape, so I know there is a lot of things to improve. One of my biggest problems right now is to get what i WANT to hear in my head, down to my fingers to actually DO it, if you understand. One other major problem is the volumes when changing tracks. I'll definitely work on that till my next post.

Here's my first ever recorded mixtape:

Do you guys believe that I'll should play the same tracks to record a similar mixtape till I get a much better result or just continuing with a new mixtape from here?
