It's an S2 with a midi fighter classic. use the instant gratification mapping for the midi fighter. not only is it a great starter controller, your friends will believe you're a f*cking baller.
Actually he could get this, buy Traktor ($89) and load the Ean Golden mapping.

I believe you could turn around and sell the Ean Golden edition VCI-400 for +15% over a regular VCI-400.

Assuming he wants/needs all the extra crap it comes with. Personally, I don't see a use for $15 phono cables, $40 of colorful knobs, or $15 for "dubstep noises". He could also put an instant gratification mapping on a dozen pieces of hardware that are cheaper and less tacky looking than a MF.

Do you have the option to try them out in a store before making a decision? Hands-on time should really be the deciding factor in your choice.
I was believeing about going down the, just go in and buy some cdjs and a mixer but i just thought i am confortable with traktor and its nothing to serious just now i will go take a look at numark and vestax thanks buddy

I like the look of the vci-400 and i had a look at the s4. i believe i would go for one of these two because this is something i really would like to get into and if i buy a s2 or vci-100 i would feel quite limited and if i ever wanted to use 4 decks i wouldnt really be able too. so yea, any final suggestions?

Pick up an audio 2 soundcard and see if you can borrow/hire a mixer for the evening . then you can use the mixer and look a lot more legit in the process
Its entirely possible to rock out without a controller BUT a soundcard is essential.

This is what i used for a couple of years before getting a controller. ahh memories

In response to your question - given your ample budget I'd say go with the VCI-400 EGE and have a field day. If you want to spend less money and keep it simple go with the S2. I wouldn't bother with too many other options in your situation. Midifighters are great but given that you're just starting out I'd stick to an all-in-one unit. The VCI is way more than you need starting out but it's a unit you can grow with and learn some great tricks on. If you want to keep it cheaper find a used VCI-100SE.

You can get them new for $500 retail, or less with a discount code. (Musician's Friend is currently doing $50 off order $349 or more - $450's a steal for a controller of that quality)
