Latoria Kavulich 21.09.2012 | Pick up an audio 2 soundcard and see if you can borrow/hire a mixer for the evening
. then you can use the mixer and look a lot more legit in the process Its entirely possible to rock out without a controller BUT a soundcard is essential. This is what i used for a couple of years before getting a controller. ahh memories |
Danae Dumler 21.09.2012 | In response to your question - given your ample budget I'd say go with the VCI-400 EGE and have a field day. If you want to spend less money and keep it simple go with the S2. I wouldn't bother with too many other options in your situation. Midifighters are great but given that you're just starting out I'd stick to an all-in-one unit. The VCI is way more than you need starting out but it's a unit you can grow with and learn some great tricks on. If you want to keep it cheaper find a used VCI-100SE. |

Dierdre Stillabower 21.09.2012 | Then it all depends on what you want. $1500 could get you a pair of 1200's, a good mixer and Traktor Scratch, or any controller currently out there. The NI controllers are going to have the tightest integration with Traktor. Pio, Vestax and Numark make some solid high-end ones, too. Do you have the option to try them out in a store before making a decision? Hands-on time should really be the deciding factor in your choice. |

Celine Surico 21.09.2012 | Are you willing to do some mapping or tweaking configs or want a turn-key solution? |
Dierdre Stillabower 21.09.2012 | You accepted a gig without having any gear, or any actual experience? :-/ What's your budget look like? |
