Progressive House?! What is going on?
Posted on: 22.09.2012 by Jacqualine Cieplik
I aways check beatport every week and have scan through the top new progressive tracks, however I feel progressive is turning into electro house which is fine just not what I'm after.

I often warm up for a trance DJ, so need to get the vibes ready.

Anyone got any good 'progressive tracks' that I can check out.

I agree completely with this. Progressive house has not been 'Progressive House' for years and more just like BigRoom House. It annoys me because it just sounds like a top 10 chart of everyone trying to outdo each other for the biggest Bigroom anthem over and over again and there is not much Club Music unless you go through alot of shit. I do like to go crate digging when it was vinyl but not now because there is just way too much shite.

Why?

Because the essence isn't progressive. The tides have changed thats all.

Progressive house is a unique genre, IMO is the mix of progressive melodies (from 90's trance and techno) with some house beats.
Different to the cheesy electro-house vocals with prog sounds charted at Beatport

Top referents of the Progressive Techno House Sound ;

Sasha (Last Night on Plante Earth)
John Digweed (Bedrock)
Dave Seaman (Bedrock, Sudbeat, etc)
Nick Warren (Hope recordings, Sudbeat)
Hernan Cattaneo (Sudbeat)
James Zabiela
Guy J (Lost and Found, Bedrock, Cocoon)
Henry Saiz (Natura Sonoris)

In Henry Saiz words:" As Henry Saiz, I made quite a few tracks that were born from the idea to add techno beats to some Italo chords, which people later called 'prog-house', which I find odd, as I've never been a fan of that style. But then again, all those tags and styles are so subjective that I don't really care..."

Long time ago when I started purchasing and listening to progressive house, I assumed it was similar to progressive rock, i.e. complex arrangements. Boy I was surprised to hear it was just based on progressive changes, instead. Anyway, I believe Indie Dance music has taken over the mantle for more interesting dance music just now where progressive is mostly hanging on to the early 2000 sound which sadly is an old hat nowadays.

Quite hard, but has a bodaciously old school breakdown, with the biggest drop after...

Even the "indie dance" label is being taken over by the electro house producers now...

There is still loads of awesome progressive music about. Progressive house is going very strong... just listen to Jaytech's podcast. and progressive trance is just as strong... listen to Andy Moor's podcast. That shit you hear on beatport is what they would call PROGNO! and its FUCKING SHIT!!! Keep digging though and you will find the good stuff!! Trust me.

Nowadays Electro and Progressive House go together, and the genre called "Progressive House" it's not anymore a melodic track with a progression, so today it's any house track with melody. BTW some true prog tracks that you may like come from Trance genius Arty, I personally love Trio and the remix on Ferry Corsten's Punk!!! Another track I like is Hans Zimmer - Time (Audible Bootleg) which is a prog-trance version of SHM - Greyhound!! I hope I've helped you!! btw sorry for my english xD

This lead me to leave that genre for what it was back in december 2010.

(Never looked back, to be honest)
