To all the hip hop guys out there.... Mixtrain?! Posted on: 01.05.2011 by Anisa Fourte So I always see house/techno/electronica mixtapes.... What about my hip hop heads? I'm believeing the normal timeframe... 1-2 hours, 10-15 minutes per person. Would be interesting to see how different DJs with different hip hop styles come together. Personally I'm an underground guy, Roots, J5, Lyrics Born, Dilated Peoples, People Under The Stairs, Swollen Members, Soliliquists of Sound type stuff and would love to see what we can all come up with.So post up if you're interested, I figure we can have 8-12 guys in if we run 2 hours... (8 people=15 minutes each, 12=10). Hell if you're a dope turntablist and just want to throw in a killer scratch routine that's only a couple of minutes long speak up too, we can throw some of those in there too, could be DOPE! Once we get enough people interested we'll start an official thread for it. -Peace | |
Anisa Fourte 12.05.2011 | Never mind, for some reason I can't edit the first post I made... So I've started a new thread for the mix itself. Please goto http://www.djranking

Anisa Fourte 12.05.2011 | nickel - Not exactly.. I'll explain in this post shortly... sherlock - getting closer... TVo14 - Old skool is awesome! I'm akin to more hip hop.... not "rap"... heh.. photojojo - And you basically hit the nail on the head there. jprime - if you want in, it's done... Alright, so let's do a little more explainin' here.... One person starts out the entire mix.. Which I'll go ahead and work on in the next couple days since I just got 2 off (hopefully). I'll setup a dropbox folder that will be shared with everyone in the mixtrain so you can all see and hear the progress and get some ideas brewin' for your set. After my set is finished I will upload it to dropbox and send the next person an e-mail to download it and begin his work. The way I ask for everyone to work is either simply use the last minute or so of the previous person's set to mix into, or just let it play out and start yours anew. Then when you are finished simply upload only your new section to the dropbox and let myself and the next person in line know. I will splice everyone's section together, make sure all the levels are proper throughout the entire mix, and give it a little bit of a "mastering" to it. Audio engineering is my day job, so trust it will be a pro job. The next person does not need to wait for me to get the spliced version uploaded to begin work on his section, and please try to keep the turnaround to under a week's time. If it is your time and something comes up, that's all good, just let us know. We might just have someone else work their section that week and then you come back the following one. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll be happy to answer any of them. True e-mail is probably better to get in touch with me so you can reach me at [email protected] if you have an urgent questions. I'm going to update the first post of this thread with all of this info now. |
Breanne Penge 12.05.2011 | I'd be into this too |
Leeanna Ayla 12.05.2011 | Each Dj mixes their set into the previous DJ's set. Some people let the previous set play and record it and then do their mix live. Some will mix their set and splice it into the previous set. Either way when each DJ is done they should upload one wav file that has their set on the end. I'll usually cut the last minute or so of the previous set and use that to mix into, then I do my mix live and paste the whole set back onto the end of the file. |
Klara Swayngim 12.05.2011 | I'm may be down but I'm haven't kept up with new hip hop in a long time (Dirty South killed hip hop for me) I do have a lot of old school hip hop though. I'll believe I'll just listen first but very curious to see the different styles together |
Spencer Kilcoyne 12.05.2011 | Oh, and how does this work on here - I've done similar groupsourced mixes before for Purple Radio, 'where it's add a single track' . you get sent the preceeding track and mix into it, and send the lot back to someone putting the mix together, who can flag if you've used the same tune as someone else ... I'm assuming it's not the same on here? |
Spencer Kilcoyne 12.05.2011 | Aye, I'm in on this one ... intrigued to see what people produce |
Twyla Tylinski 09.05.2011 | I've not been following the house mixtrain, so I don't actually know what's required. I'm assuming you want a 15 minute hip-hop mix which I must place on this thread? |
Anisa Fourte 08.05.2011 | Sounds good Buffalo Ill! Will definitely keep doing these if we get some good heads together. Looks like I'll actually have some time to work on this over the next week. My session at work won't start until 9-10pm so I'll get most afternoons to work on some things. I'll see what I can come up with for an intro unless someone else believes they have a good idea for one. |
Antoine Wasiewicz 08.05.2011 | I'd love to be in on this - but my gear is in storage while I move house. I'll be in on the next Hip-Hop mix train, though... |
Anisa Fourte 07.05.2011 | Alright!! Figured I'd get a decent response on this! Sorry I've been really busy this week and haven't been able to get back to you guys. So here's the list of people that I'm assuming are wanting in on this (if you simply said "subscribed" you're not on this list, please let me know if you wanted to be in on it.): Tre Tuna Citizen_Insane Gr0wTesK Sherlock Ohms - Not sure if you wanted to be in or just saying more info AyeAreTee nickel So that's 6 people, which I figure is good enough to get started, if anyone else chimes before too long we can add a few more in. I'd say around 15 minutes a piece. If you're mainly a turntablist and want to do less that's fine, I know some of those routines can be pretty intense. Just let us know. As for format, it's hip hop! You can go instrumental, lyrical, old skool, nu skool, turntablistic, whatever you want. Just make it blend, or cut, or just backspin the hell out of it! My question to you all, is does anyone have an exceptional talent at creating good intros and want to give a crack at the first slot here? Honestly my next week and a half are going to be nuts at the studio so I won't have time to work one out if we want to get this started quickly. |
Leeanna Ayla 05.05.2011 | That's the beauty of the mix trains, it will all be kind of different according to that DJ's interpretation. So what's the order going to be Tretuna? Lets get this rolling!! |
Twyla Tylinski 05.05.2011 | As an ageing b-boy you can count me in on this hip-hop mixtrain. Now what do I have to do? |
Arline Gruel 05.05.2011 | who's gonna start it off? and is it old school hip-hop or can it be anything? |
Margie Pavell 02.05.2011 | subscribed...lets see some skillz... someone drop some ultramagnetic for me (dang...making requests already) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_vSGkS3tCQ |
Dena Chinn 01.05.2011 | subscribe |
Leonardo Papajohn 01.05.2011 | Im so down for this! I have some scratch skills, lemme know if you'd be down for me to scratch as well. http://youtu.be/TvmmDNt_P8k |
Dorcas Bassignani 02.05.2011 | [posts comment to subscibe so can watch how this plays out, even though there is the subcribe option but that's at the top of the screen] |
Spencer Kilcoyne 02.05.2011 | Aye go on then ... |
Arline Gruel 01.05.2011 | im in |
Leeanna Ayla 01.05.2011 | I'll PM a couple guys that might miss this thread that I believe would be down. |
Marguerite Salsedo 01.05.2011 | I'm kinda down though I'd probably be keeping my part more instrumental and I will say now that I straight up lack any scratching ability. |
