So I recently decided to upgrade my soundcloud account and put up a few mixes that ive done over the past few weeks to start a new (bi-weekly **Hopefully**) series covering newly released (/ unreleased) house, electro, and dubstep tracks. | Coreen Pankow 25.08.2011 | Thanks for the feedback man! yeah i agree with you, it should have a standard length for a mix series, (these were originally recorded as external video/screen capture/ and audio to be uploaded as videos to youtube, but the time limit keeps screwing me over. ill try and keep that in mind about the vocals, ive kinda been in a state of mixing upheval and have changed alot of the ways i do things while im mixing (my entire workflow actually) and am trying to get a bit more creative on the fly rather than only being able to do 4 decks after extensive planning/sync - (these mixes were all on the fly, grabbing tracks as i went from my "recently added" playlist. yeah sorry bout that iphone part. its actually the breakdown of knife party -internet friends, and i was gonna miss the cut, so i had to cuepoint the track back to that point cause i had overshot it. rather than dropping it at the vocal - "you blocked me on facebook, and now youre going to die!" and dropping into technologic. actually, there was a decent amount of overlap, i rarely had only one track playing (maybe like 10 seconds or so?) -- but im glad you couldnt tell if i was mixing -- thats what im going for, seemless. thanks for the feedback man! its a growing process, and every lil bit helps (ive improved drastically in the last 6 months compared to the first year or so i had been doing this) |
| Kenton Almeyda 25.08.2011 | I listened to your two mixes via subsonic music streamer on my phone, both in my car while driving to/from grocery shopping and while grocery shopping on headphones. Here's my feedback. - I don't like a lot of these tracks. But I believe you that they are top new tracks on beatport, and so I can't really blame you for that. - It seemed like almost every track had a prominent vocal. I know it can be hard given the "input" tracks, but too much vocal can be a bit exhausting in the mix. - I was expecting the mixes in a "mix series" to be a standard length, probably around 30 minutes. In the event, one was much shorter than the other, and I got confused while shopping because it seemed like my streaming was hanging. In fact, the mix was just over. - I really disliked your drops with the iPhone alert sounds, as I was listening on my phone. I thought my girlfriend was calling or something. - The mixing was pretty solid, transitions were smooth and I don't recall hearing any "off" mixes. I'm not sure it was very apparent to me when you were mixing, which suggests that there was not a huge amount of overlap, though this makes sense with this general mix concept. - There is another guy on this community who does something similar with.. tech.. house.. or something? You might want to look a few pages back and see his post which he updates every month, to see what others have done with a similar concept. Thanks for posting, and keep at it! |
