Should I get a pro soundcloud account? What are the Pros and cons?

Yep, here's the Alexa rankings for both sites, with the US-specific rankings in brackets: -

SoundCloud = 187 (155)
Mixcloud = 3,156 (4,696)

So SoundCloud is one of the top 200 most popular sites in the world (at least according to Alexa), while Mixcloud is miles behind.

I had my mix viewed 200 times in a day on soundcloud. Still waiting on 100 views on mixcloud in over a year.

Except not everyone is doing this for a career, some are just doing it as a hobby. I certainly see the benefits for those that are professionals and..hell, I even signed up today just so I wouldn't disgust you, (Even though it's just a hobby and a way for me to share music) but I have lots of disposable income that I know many others here that aren't doing this professionally don't have the luxury of having.

Interesting...Mixcloud and Soundcloud came out around the same time. I use soundcloud to post my latest mix and mixcloud to archive it when the next mix is ready for soundcloud. I've definitely noticed that mixcloud gets "no love". Pretty stagnant as far as people checking out your stuff. I have to attribute this to the "streaming only" of mixcloud vs. the download option of soundcloud. Also, mixcloud makes you post the playlist and if you don't, it creates it for you. Mixcloud seems more geared towards "legality and props to the artist".

Good to read about you guys posting Soundcloud vs Mixcloud. I was curious about this myself. I'd never heard of Mixcloud until about 2 months ago, so it makes sense that more listeners may find your music or mix on Soundcloud.

Not blowing my own horn but our hits have exploded since getting a Pro account (even before the new plans)

Here is an example of the enhanced stats overview page. Ours from last month

I have never considered Soundcloud or Mixcloud a place where I would upload my mixes and people would "stumble" on them on their own. I treat them like storage sites.

Posted this question in another thread, but don't believe anyone saw it. Is there a promo code for a pro account out there? Came up short when looking myself.

Possibly the best money i spent was upgrading to a pro account. I've got unlimited uploads which for me is the main reason i upgraded. But after a while you start to enjoy the smaller things like the full user stats etc..

I recommend it to anyone because as people said i was using Mixcloud for a long time but i was getting 20 or mayb 30 listens per mix in a year but Soundcloud i'm getting around 500 listens in a few weeks or months.

I've never had much luck with Mixcloud. I uploaded one mix there because it was blocked by SoundCloud, so it's the only place I've uploaded the mix, and it's had 231 listens in about 2 years. At the end of the day, I go where I'm more likely to have my stuff heard, which at the moment is definitely SoundCloud despite its restrictions.

pro is the only way to go, if your going to post mixes, because they take up so much time

A lot of the copyright stuff is their automatic algorithms, but people can also report your sounds on their own if they feel like being an asshat. I had a mix up for over a year and then it got taken down at one point because a record label apparently just signed up for being a nazi.

That being said, paid is priceless. More mixes to post up and seeing statistics. I get a kick out of seeing people around the world checking in on my mixes time to time.

I ran into more issues with the uploading thing BEFORE I paid for it as well, so keep that in mind too.

Unless that is scrapped (unlikely!), it's only going to get more and more restrictive as time goes on.

But if you don't have copyright issues, I believe SoundCloud is by far the best site for sharing your stuff, although I believe they took a couple of steps back with the upgrade to the "Next" version.

Ya the new version can be a PITA. I've had upload issues so just use the classic uploader.

I've given up on Soundcloud and went to Hearthis.at for my promo mixes Of course, for original music production I can see why would you want to be on Soundcloud.
