What professionnal headphones should I get ?
Posted on: 11.11.2013 by Reatha Belfield
Hello everyone, I've started looking for a good pair of headphones for production and not DJ'ing. I've been considering the sennheiser hd 600 or 650 serie, but I wanted some feedback on headphones. Anyone knows a cheaper brand ?

Thank you

2. I'll suggest the Sony MDR-7506 that you can currently buy on amazon for under $100 inc shipping - Read the reviews.

Personally I believe they are THE best sounding and most durable pro headphones you'll get under $200

3. Mods Can we please get a sticky post on the subject(s) of headphones - seriously ?

Remember that the OP is not asking for DJ headphones, but for producing.

Personally wouldn't use TMA-1's for production, although they do a pair for production, though out of budget.

You want a balanced sound, I don't own these but have used them;

Audio Technica ATH M50, although maybe slightly out of budget.

I bought a pair of Refurbished AIAIAI TMA-1s for 90 bucks on ebay dude... get them! Granted I wanted to go for Senns HD25 but this was a very good opportunity to pass...

edit: I should learn how to read... but well... the heads up stays there for anyone wanting cheap tma's

Well the HD-25's are first and foremost monitoring headphones, so if you can't use them in the studio then you have an issue. Heck mine are the 25-13's which are designed for high impedance studio gear.

wtf, seriously bad advice here. Did you guys even read the original post ?

He 's looking for production headphones, don't fucking get V-MODA or even HD-25s for studio purposes, do you people even believe before you post.

I would recommend Audio Technica M50S, because producers I know swear by them, but if I were you I'd save some more money and do your own research.
I thought aiaiai TMA-1 studios were nice but they got some bad reviews.

"Professional" is a relative term. If all the pro's started using Hello Kitty branded Panasonics because Panasonic paid them to, then Hello Kitty Panasonic's would be the professional gear.

Anyways, I used Senn HD-25's and they're amazing, I've used some AIAIAI TMA-1's and they also kick ass, but again we're talking big money here.

For a budget, I've found that the Sony MDR-V55's are surprisingly good and they have that classic Sony headphone feel (Which I know a lot of DJs swear by, even though the original Sony MDR-V700's are discontinued they'll still spend major dollar tracking down old stock)

Also the other day I used a pair of Goji Tinchy Stryder Over-ear cans, and they knock the ball out of the park for their price. They're also really comfy and managed to go over my ears which are basically fleshy sattelite dishes.

If you want more technical suggestions head on over to the head-fi community s. You will get more suggestions based on real life application opposed to just "what's cool", in my opinion..
