Traktor.... why?
Traktor.... why? Posted on: 07.11.2012 by Adrien Witkus I am absolutely lost here....I've tried every single traktor update since 2.1, and every time I get the same problem... every update on this computer (toshiba qosmio laptop, windows 7 64 bit) makes my S4 no longer recognized by Traktor. It will still detect the audio card just fine, and I can even use timecode with it, but it won't recognize the S4 as a controller. It doesn't show up as an option in the setup wizard (even though three NI controllers I've never used DO show up), and it doesn't show up in the controller manager as an in or an out. I've uninstalled, deleted all traces and drivers, cleaned the registry, reinstalled everything (including S4 drivers), and still nothing. And I've done this with every new version after 2.1. If I reinstall 2.1, it works fine. Also, all versions work perfectly fine with the S4 on my other computer. Any idea why this would be happening? Thanks. | |

Adrien Witkus 08.11.2012 | HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. You're kidding me. That was it. All I had to do this entire time was update the controller editor. I didn't realize it was important for the running of the actual program. I've never used it, I didn't even know it got updates. I, and several other people, have asked this question on every single community I know of for the last six months. Nobody even mentioned the controller editor. Thank you so much. |
Frederic Acidera 08.11.2012 | Controller editor up to date??...usually that's a frequent issue for people and it gets fixed after it's updated. |
Adrien Witkus 08.11.2012 | tried that. and no the S4 does not show up as in in or out. |
Trista Karle 07.11.2012 | Have you uninstalled drivers from device manager and is your s4 showing up in midi in midi out in mapping area |
Charline Dye 07.11.2012 | Tried a different USB cable? |

Adrien Witkus 07.11.2012 | yeah i thought it might be that too... no luck |
Ciara Cuttill 07.11.2012 | ive had a similar problem with my x1's ... turns out they dont work properly if i had them plugged in when turning windows on.... have you tried resetting and then plugging in the device? |
Adrien Witkus 07.11.2012 | Nah they're not usb 3.0 ports... And the controller editor won't find it either. There's got to be something that they changed after 2.1 that makes it not work with some specific thing about my computer. I'm trying to avoid a system wipe to fix the problem... and honestly I don't know if it would even work. On community s there have been several other people with a similar problem, and nobody's been able to come up with a solution... |
Janyce Henningson 07.11.2012 | Yeah good point about HID, I just wondered if midi was working. The only other thing I can believe of is to try Controller Editor software see if it shows up there. I just believe if it has happened with different updates since 2.1 it is unlikely to be software related, and if it works on 2.1 and another computer then the S4 is fine, so that leaves the laptop? Not USB3 ports are they? |
Adrien Witkus 07.11.2012 | Well the S4 is an HID device. you can put it in midi mode, but you need to have it running in traktor in order to do that... It's also quite safe to assume that the laptop is reciving signal from the S4... it sees it in the device manager, and it works perfectly well when any older version of traktor is running |
Janyce Henningson 07.11.2012 | Yeah it's a midi monitor - lets you see if the S4 is sending midi. Install then run it. Make sure the input window is open : View > Input Monitor Then move some faders on the S4 and if it's recognized you will see the midi data in the Input Monitor. You can click Options > Midi Devices to see if the S4 is listed there as well. |

I've been chasing this problem for months though, and these are the first two new solutions I've heard in a while. Thank you. Any other ideas? I looked into midiox, but I'm not sure how to use it to help. Can you elaborate? |

Adrien Witkus 07.11.2012 | oh yes, but that's just built into traktor whether or not you own an S4. |
Nedra Fresneda 07.11.2012 | Do you at least see the S4 section in the prefs pane? |
Jeffrey Akinsanya 07.11.2012 | ok lol.. sounded like you had a dodgy copy.. try reverting all settings back to default. |
Adrien Witkus 07.11.2012 | Thanks padi, I've tried that, though :-/ And yes, I'm trying with 2.6. |
Jeffrey Akinsanya 07.11.2012 | have you tried 2.6??????????????????? |
Nedra Fresneda 07.11.2012 | Try installing an update after 2.1 without updating the drivers. |
