Tech House Mix Dec 2012, First mix in almost a decade

Hello DJTT Forum members,

I have loved dance music since I was little. I was a train wreck DJ in college. I bought techs once out in the real world, life changed, got married, had kids, sold my gear. Then within the past few months I have been getting back into production, and then spinning with a Traktor s2. The short of all of this is I am really working towards spinning again here locally in Denver, Colorado, USA. I am in love with all the technology and ability to buy music from my bed, computer, wherever. Please enjoy my first Tech House mix in almost a decade. Looking for critiques.

Peace,

Razzlesnaz

I am grateful for the constructive criticism. I will take you and your lovelies comments to heart and work to improve my game. I even had my first gig a week ago for 50 or so people in a coffee shop that serves booze. It was a blast.

I listened to your mix yesterday and today while working from home. I listened on my Macbook speakers, streaming via subsonic. My GF was about, so the below includes some of her input as well. Here's my feedback!

- Thanks for the tracklisting and download link! Tracklist + download = moar plays = moar feedback!

- I like it when people name their mixes. Generic descriptive mix names make it hard for me to form an emotional attachment with the mix.

- As to your mixing, in general phrasing was well executed. I personally prefer longer transitions in the mix, but you generally did well here. I presume this mix was done with sync due to the lack of off-phasing. There was an overuse of the gater effect in general, sometimes it sounded pretty ok and other times not so good. I especially didn't like it when used in the context of a transition. Levels were good throughout but I didn't notice any meaningful use of the EQ.

- Track list is pretty solid, deep but uptempo. A nice level of personality though certain tracks were a bit too much of the "steam tunnel" sound for my taste. Just my personal opinion, but "I know you got soul" never needs to be on another dj mix, and never needs to be remixed again. It is PLAYED OUT. I enjoyed all but two or so of the vocals in the approximately four vocal tracks. Which track is the "she's the kinda girl you want to marry" vocal?

- The mix starts and ends kinda abruptly. Even if people aren't going to go crazy with the energy levels in a mix (your energy levels were a pretty good variation) I appreciate some sense of intro and outro on a mix.

- Keeping based on tracklist and feel. Welcome back to the world of djing. Thanks for posting and keep at it!
