It might be good to mention the two tracks involved here (I had to look them up on the SoundCloud, I knew the vocal, that was obvious, but the other track I didn't). Either way, you've picked two tracks which actually go really well in my opinion!

Creatively, it's an excellent mashup, actually one of the better ones I've heard lately!
The only problems are technical, and mainly to do with balancing the elements of the track:
It gets very crowded at about 1:11 and the elements start to feel a bit out of balance, especially the "powering up" sound from about 1:30 - which is rather loud compared to the rest of the track.
The only other thing I'd add is that the start, from 0:11 to 0:33, screams "obvious loop".

Nice job otherwise! Really good!
Thanks a lot for that. Much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I shall keep that in mind and possibly improve this one, or include the elements mentioned in my next attempt.

You are very right about the start, must have a loop "in disguise" so that its not so obvious, if at all noticeable.

Cheers.

Yes I do it all in Traktor. The only thing I use Audacity for is for the conversion to mp3 which in effect is just the lame engine in use.

Yeah I use that filter but never used it in a consistent way. But tried it out yesterday and it sounded pretty good. Isolated vocals nicely.

Hmm will try something with that.

You do the entire thing recorded in Traktor? OK, but my first bit of advice is to get your hands on Audacity: It's a completely free audio editor, imagine it like Microsoft Word except for waveforms, and easy to use; amplify, reduce, cut, copy, paste, filter, 15 band EQ - it's all there. Half the stuff on it you won't use, but it's great for balancing and ironing out rough spots.

Also, on Traktor, I find that using a ladder filter (settings -> mixer) set about 45 - 49% isolates vocals pretty well, whilst also boosting them.

Hey Hey.

I use good old Traktor for all my mixes.

I mainly use EQ and a filtering to get it to a state I like ot I feel that works best.

Thoughts?

Hey.

I use good old traktor and ix on the fly. I just use filters and eq buit in traktor to isolate things where I can. That could be the reason you hear a few glitches with beats perhaps.

Also, could I ask what software you use to make these? And also what techniques you use to isolate various elements such as vocals - i.e. filter? EQing? just cutting the bass? I might be able to give you a few more tips if I knew.

Thanks for that. Noted, will see if I can drop in on a full mix.

Cool thanks a lot for that. Yeah I believe that glitch was me trying to spice the track up a little by adding variation.

Will try a cleaner version with more consistent glitches/effects next time around.

Hip-hop isn't my strong point, but I would have to agree with what CountenanT has to say, and I'll add a little bit of my own thoughts here.

The track on a whole is sorta lacking to me. No energy. So on it's own it's not blowing my socks off. Now if you where to drop this in a mix as a brake down and used that build up / power up sound to get back into the mix it deff would have a wow factor.

Back again!

OK, gave it a listen, listened to the original Busta track as well (Im not too familiar with his stuff), but couldn't find the other track.
Creatively, it works really well, same as the other one - two tracks that go great together. There's also no problems with bars, phrasing or looping like in the other track, which is great.

Technically, the track balance suffers again a bit - you can barely hear the vocals from 0:30 until they louden up a bit at 0:50, and the first chorus isn't clear at all (the next choruses are fine).
Also, at 2:14 - I'm not sure if it's an effect or a glitch in the track. If it's an effect, it feels a little bit random since it's the only place in the track it appears.

Oh wow thanks for that. Will give it a shot. I do agree with your comments about intros with RNB tracks. Funny thing is that I don't listen to much RNB and rap, so a bit hard to identify the trend in intros. But yeah will take your comments into consideration.

Any thoughts on my other mash up below?

I've just booted the track up myself to see if I can help in any way.
I see the challenge you're facing, it's hard to get decent loops on a lot of RnB and hip hop tracks as there's often rappers shouting over the intro (that annoys the crap out of me personally), or they don't repeat enough words to get a decent loop.
If you want to keep the intro the same length, you may wanna try and split the vocal up and have a bar or two of instrumental between. I'm counting 8 bars from the start to the first verse, the original track has 4 bars from the start to the first verse, so maybe just start with a 4 bar instrumental, or intersperse a bar of instrumental between 4 "sections" of the vocal. Just some thoughts I thought might help.
