Mixer Dilemma
Posted on: 10.11.2012 by Daphne Oberting
Hey Guys. Listen I'm 13, and in pursuit of a good, cost effective mixer. I don't need hardware effects, because I use traktor or ableton effects. I am believeing of moving over to vinyl sooner or later, so at least 2 Line/Phono inputs are a MUST.

My main criteria are:
3 band, total kill EQ
MIDI Capability
At least 4 decks
At least 2 Line/Phono inputs
USB audio interface

Any reply would be awesome. I'm not a novice, so please spare the beginner stuff. Thanks for the help!

Okay - will mention it in a few months or so if you're still after one

Did my first mix with it at the weekend and did rather love it. May even be tempted to stay with Ecler when I eventually do get the funds to get an all new mixer. Would love to try those Evo 4 range mixers

If you want the denon and you can afford it, I'd go for it. I'm sure you 'll have loads of fun.

Aww if it was last Sunday evening it prob was me (believe there was only us two bidding on it??) - and if so am sorry about that !!

It's a luvly mixer but I believe I do need to get it serviced (some things are a little not right) - maybe I should've got a new Nuo 4.0 as tbh am not really using the onboard FX as using myr RMX 1000 (post fader fx are so useful now got a chance to use them) but I got all excited by the chance to use a mixer with an Eternal crossfader.

I'm trying get used to using various hardware mixers for playing out in clubs (previously an S4 user) so am likely selling on the Nuo in a few months and get a new high end A&H/Denon/Ecler Evo 5.0/Pio mixer if you're still after a Nuo 5?

It's a great mixer, does everything you asked for, and does it really well.

If you have your mind set on a mixer don't get an S2/S4, you will just end up selling it to buy a mixer..

This is not necessarily true, the number of phono-preamps does not have to be the same as the total number of channels. My Xone 42 only had 2 phono-preamps for example.

Korg zero 4 (around €600)
-full midi
-4 channels
-sick ass more channels then you 'll ever need bitchin' soundcard (just so happens to be NI scratch certified as well)

-11 EQ modes (some of wich are full kill)
you didn't ask for it but it has a complex effect system (not DB4ish but it's up there)

only thing is it has a female FW400 connection, so yea, bit of a bummer there, you sure FW is a no go ?

But seriously OP I'd do this if I were you:

you want midi ? S4/S2

you going vinyl anyway ? Xone 22/DJM whatever you can offord

Ecler Nuo 4 (not the 4.0) would be the best bet for you.

Pioneer DJM 850, Xone DB2 or still one of my favourite mixers, the Xone 4D. Denon DN-1600 is another great option.

After seeing your budget your best bet is the DJM 850 if you can get one cheap

Nope, it doesnt even have any USB capability. Pure MIDI over DIN terminals
