Hi guys looking to buy my first set up need help Posted on: 29.11.2012 by Stephania Hanline Hello, I am looking to buy mt first setup. I want to work with EDM house and maybe some dubstep (dont really like dub but im just gonna throw it out there to be safe). I dont really care for jogs i know you can use them for other things besides scratching. So i was looking at the novation twitch which is pretty cheap at this one site i found. Another possibility i was looking at was the vestax vci 400. I really like the pads at the bottom of the 400 and i have read that the vestax is full of features. My third option that i thought would be pretty good would be a novation twitch and a kontrol f1. Getting both a twitch and f1 would still be cheaper then a 400 and give me a lot of pads to work with, but im still not sure what to get. As far as the type of software i want to use i believe ill go with traktor. I was able to mess around with it in a local music store and just liked the it due to its layout. The controllerist aspect of dj'ing is what really appeals to me so if u guys could give me your opinion on the gear and feel free to throw in some of your own suggestions as well. Thanks to all who answer. Also im not sure if i posted this in the right place. | |

Id say the s2 is great, and it got me going! Plus, its good that you are looking up reviews as well, I made quite a few purchases that I really wish i didnt! Hope this helps you out, and the s2 was a great place to start for me and has my reccomendation. |

Ethel Feigum 29.11.2012 | If you've never djed before I wouldn't start believeing about F1s or midifighters just yet... start with something simple so you can learn the fundamentals, then upgrade or add on when you actually know what you need suit your style. The S2 is probably an excellent choice. When I started with digital I had all kinds of ideas about what I thought I wanted in a setup, but once I began to develop my own style my needs were quite different from what I thought I wanted. ...And welcome to the DJTT community s! Some posts might have been a bit negative, but it's only because we see this same question A LOT. Use the community search function before starting a new thread, and you might find your answers without having to hear all the oldtimers grumbling. Search is your friend, especially for "just starting out" type questions! |
Ami Lele 29.11.2012 | Yeah it is really how you use the gear to some extent. We both have very understandable points which both are similar. But don't feel limited with the S2....Look at this first The s4 ones are better lol but you get the idea |

Ami Lele 29.11.2012 | I don't agree, I realize that is your two cents but come on. For SOO much more money you get GREAT "tools" but I have read many reviews that it isn't a beginner controller and many that say mapping it is very difficult. But decide yourseld |
Jae Schlimm 29.11.2012 | I would say get the jog wheels since they're so natural for their uses that aren't specifically scratching, but pads work perfect to for those uses (pitch bending, searching, blah blah blah.), but since Ive been playing around with using only pads for those purposes, it actually works really well. It depends on whether you like having a modular setup or an all in one (which would be the VCI-400). You cant really go wrong with a VCI-400. Basically VCI-400 - You get EVERYTHING you need for mixing. Perfect for starting out, and will last you a quite a while, depending on what you want. Twitch and F1 - ALL depends on how you use it. Not necessarily a beginners option as you could either have an advanced or a crappy use for it, depending on how you want to mix. And if you really want jog wheels if you get the Twitch and F1, you can get the Behringer CMD PL-1s when they come out which are pretty nice. This would make your setup quite messy though (cables, desk space, transportation would be much more obnoxious than with a VCI-400). As a beginner, Id say get the VCI-400. Its going to do most of the things you'll want it to and itll last you a long time. I see the Twitch and F1 as something you'd get once you become more familiar and, say, want to try new things or do some serious controllerism and remixing. TLDR Get the VCI-400. |
Ami Lele 29.11.2012 | Yeah I had a great idea today while spacing out in debate team. Get a MF pro or wait to see what the new one has and use the up faders as VOL deck C and D and etc and have the presets as 1,2 Deck C stuff and 3,4 Deck D stuff! |
Stephania Hanline 29.11.2012 | thanks for answering, yeah i looked at the s2 as well and it is pretty cheap that would be nice to start with since it has 2 decks only to worry about. |
Ami Lele 29.11.2012 | +1 I just started DJing and I bought an S2. SAVE YOURSELF A Year and just get an S2. I asked the same questions as you did when I was deciding. |
Stephania Hanline 29.11.2012 | could have just answered my fucking question in the amount of time it took you to make that long ass post not answering my question! |
Virgina Remson 29.11.2012 | If you are going to be going with Traktor and are looking for a controller, I would seriously suggest giving the S2 some consideration. While you may not be too fond of jogs, the tight integration the S2 has with Traktor is a huge plus. The jogs help with nudging your tracks into alignment and are great for scrolling through a song to cue up. The hotcues and FX sections on the S2 make it great for controllerism without having to buy additional gear. It also comes with TP2 and has a built-in soundcard! Hope that helps! |

Stephania Hanline 29.11.2012 | I did look up info on these products , i just wanted some opinions from here and i dont believe you read my entire post because i said "I dont really care for jogs i know you can use them for other things besides scratching". |
Ara Tima 29.11.2012 | Firstly I'm sure there is a million threads going over this. Search then ask for more specifics if you don't get answers, all of those controllers have advantages and disadvantages. Secondly. Jogs have more use then just scratching.
maybe some dubstep (dont really like dub but im just gonna throw it out there to be safe)
