DJM-2000 or DJM-900 Nexus ?

It's really hard to decide which one to pick so bring on the arguments!

I know the details, tried them both, still can't decide so help me out with your personal feelings!

I want to use it with pretty much anything ranging from CDJs, Midi-controllers and DVS.

pretty much where im going with this... i also like that there are timing buttons so i can jump from 4/1 to 1/4 instantly... ive used the xpad but probibly have about 8-10 hrs on the 900 total so i still dont feel at home on one.

ordered my 900, now just waiting for it to come in. Within a few weeks will be adding an EFX 1000 or EFX 500R (much rather have the 1000), however, i feel like there may be a new EFX unit right around the corner.
Just curious.. what benefits do you see the 1000 giving you in addition to all the effects available on-board the djm900 + if your using traktor - a whole bunch more.

Effect chaining + looping effects in a more advanced way is the benefit I can see.. Is that what you have in mind?

I have the DJM900 for about 2 months now and definitely love it. I played with the DJM2000 at guitar center for 30 minutes and I dunno.. I just liked the feel of the 900 better (i was upgrading from a DJM-700 after selling that + my s4). Those multi-screen effects didnt seem like something I'd use and the fact that they make the unit miles longer played into my decision.

As for the 900, I def love it and am having tons of fun with it but be forewarned, I have issues getting it to sync traktor's midi clock to the djm900 (traktor-master + djm900-slave). Yes, DJM900 has auto-bpm counter for the effects but its not perfect by any means. I have talked to some users on community s and one dude who tried to help me out quite alot (robert rodriquez) and he was able to help me to get the djm900's midi clock stopped (which was part of the problem) but the workaround is crazy (i have no clue how robert figured it out! guy is a genius with this stuff). Unfortunately, to sync traktors clock to the djm, you have to have djm on Auto bpm mode which automatically starts the clock again so I have yet to get it sync'ed perfectly to traktors midi clock.

DJM900 does a decent enough job of auto-bpm'ing (but sometimes it can go kind of crazy) so it hasnt been the biggest deal for me. However, if I used traktor's master clock as my master sync source, I would have returned the mixer by now. But I dont use that master sync much (tempo sync sometimes if I'm lazy). So it wasnt a dealbreaker and maybe Pio will address it. Their tech support sucks so I won't hold my breath. Their own tech support didnt even know how to use traktor or didnt know whether what I was asking was even possible. Basically told me that they'll post it on the community and maybe a user can help (what the shit is that for a company of pio's size)? Now I'm just venting so I'll stop..

Anyways:
PROS:
- familiar layout for anybody comfy with the djm series
- effects are easy to use and I actually find myself using quite a bit of them and being able to mix it up
- stable connection to traktor (outside the midi clock thing I vented about)
- good audio sound (I've done some pretty extensive comparison on s4, ecler + this since I bought it)
- love the x-pad for effects
- fader start works well with cdjs
- LFO Form button sounds really cool but I havent used it yet
- crossfader is pretty nice in my opinion (I wouldnt say Im a serious scratcher but I do like to scratch sometimes and its definitely not a crappy crossfader.
- line channel faders have additional curve
- Switch between iso or eq curves is really nice
- easy midi control mapping + switching over to midi
- traktor setup with timecode was a BREEZE (outside the midi clock issue)

CONS:
- the midi clock thing is my absolute biggest issue but in my case, its more of a frustration since I wouldnt use it incredibly often (unless it unlocked some serious benefits which I guess it might)
- the midi controls could have been a little more intelligent in my opinion but the djm2000 doesnt really have any difference here (for example, I like the way denon did it (per channel).

Really, other than those 2 things (+ one is simply just a design choice, I'm super happy with the purchase and love this mixer. But honestly, I believe if you are looking at djm2000 vs djm900, you'll see alot of similarity and its going to come down to personal preference as each one has a few unique things that some may like one + some the other..

Both seem future-proof + I dont see myself having to upgrade for another 5+ years.

Will love to hear which one you go with and what led you to decision.

I've had the 2000 for almost a week now and used it at two gigs.

Here are just a few random thoughts about it:

It is a pretty well-built and versatile mixer.

Its touchscreen is tactile. I don't see the delay a few people are complaining about.

The instant effects are very handy. I see myself using them (besides Crush) a lot.
Frequency crossfaders can really make a mix smoother but unless I've got some time to do the transition I hardly use it at all.

The remix feature is a lot of fun. Especially Oscillator 4 (the 808-drum-one) can alter rythmns in an interesting way if sidechained with another track. If used with them same track it only puts emphasize on the drums.
It's a shame that you need a CDJ900/2000 to use the live sampler module.

I didn't get the knack of the beat-effects yet. Only the infamous double-tap delay works as I want it to. I probably need some practice with it.
Rolling and reverse-rolling the microphone can create interesting effects.

The layout is nice but having three different ways of adding effects guarantees crossed arms and weird stances.

The MIDI-controls on the touchscreen are pretty cool. I currently only mapped them to trigger Samples on deck 3 and 4 of Traktor.

All in all I'm not sure yet whether the DJM 2000 is "my mixer". I'll have to try a few others.

Other candidates are Xone DB4, DJM 900 and Rane 68.

I'd personally also go with 900. Seems like the perfect mix. The 2000 is too big, and too much. 900 has just about everything needed.

let us know how it goes.

I'd say the coolest thing about the effect on the 2000 is that you can choose which frequency is affected.

On the djm-900 when you sample a loop and put it to a different channel you can't affect it with the eq because its post fader? Unless I missed something. I dont know if thats the same on the 2000 is it?

The DB4 seems to be great option too.

I'll give the 2000 2-3 weeks and then decide whether to keep it or choose another mixer.

900 for sure. More likely to find it or an 800in a club and you will be familiar. It is much better suited for running with a range of setups.

what about the db4? It's a great digital mixer if you want loads of effects but not the bulkiness of the djm2000

I just ordered a DJM 2000 for now.
If I don't like it I'll switch it for a DJM 900 or even a Xone:92 as GaryGary1 suggested. I'm pretty fond of the latter one.

If I could have 4 cdj2000 and my djm 900 the last thing I'd be worrying about is how far they are apart.

Always having a djm-2000 at clubs is something to consider, unless you have a case for it and bring it along.

Keep that warranty up to date i'd say

900 any day!! Jesus, that 2000 looks like an absolute evening mare! WAAAAY too much shit going on. Too big, too over-kill if you ask me. You probably wouldn't use half the shit it has to offer

If I'm honest I actually prefer the 800. I prefer the quick access FX on it and I dont like where the rotary line selectors are on the 900. I keep going to turn them believeing they are the gain knobs. We got a 900 and an 800 in the club I play at so get to use both. They got the 900 in after Eddie Halliwell kicked up a fuss about them not having one cos they didn't receive his technical rider prior to him arriving. Then Afrojack requested the 800 even though the 900 was there for the same reasons I prefer it.

Also, just thought... if you got the 2000 you'd prob get used to all the shit it can do then rock up to a club and they won't have one and all the shit you practiced at home goes out the window. AND, Pioneer released the CDJ 2000's with the intention of hooking 4 up simultaneously and you can use 1 USB stick or SD card. If you were fortunate enough to be able to afford the complete ultimate Pioneer flagship set up, the outer decks would be waaay too far apart from each other! Even worse... if you had 2 CDJs and 2 TT's and possibly and laptop with timecode the space needed for your set up would be a joke!

I believe they are so close in price that price isnt an issue.

However, for me, I decided that the 900 was the one because of the effects section.

Effects for me are a subtle thing, so having 1/3 of the mixer control effects, as well as being in the dead center was the reason I didn't choose it. I'd feel like I would be obligated to be messing around with wayy to many effects wayy to much of the time.

Now seeing how you have experience with several types and 900 may be soemthing old to you, maybe its time for djm-2000. I have come from midi controllers rarely using a djm-800 so the 900 is a bit more of a big deal to me I guess.

DJM-2000, do it. haha

I like the layout of the 900 and the fact it is traktor certified but since i already have an Audio 8 and already have 600/800/900 mixers everywhere i play it doesn't really make me want a 900..

I really like the 2000, i believe the 2000 would win it for me to be honest. I like the fact it 'nearly' has a EFX1000 built in.

TSP certified and layout make me say 900.
Tatum Ansaldo
22.09.2011
I prefer the simplicity of the 900 personally, the 2000 can do ANYTHING but it doesn't have the quick access to a HP/LP filter for example. And of course the 900 is TSP certified which is great if that's what you're using.
