the article goes on to say he did tons of networking on grammy365, the facebook for grammy voters. so basically he did the equivalent of a dj getting booked for a show because they have a ton of facebook likes. as they say...it's not what you know, it's who you know.
It shows up the Grammy nominations to be an absolute sham. The people who voted for him clearly had no clue about the category they were nominating him for & quite possibly didn't even listen to his track, just ticked a box of a name they recognised from somewhere (him spamming them).

Fuck The Grammys.

The blonde was the genius in the video, slather her in Vick's and I would wear her for an oxygen mask, I'm not even really into girls like that but she has swagger.

In the interview, he hit what I figured is likely, that the judges are not really understanding of dance music culture, or what is responsive in a club vs. pop music. He could actually be legit, the rest of us might be able to be nominated too. The lesson to take from this is to produce a palatable piece of music with a well produced even if horrible in content and submit it. The guy is no Roni Size but then again there are really only a handful of dance music producers that are that good.

wow. i feel dumber just for watching that interview.
here it is for the curious

walser was as fake as expected but i was more disappointed with edmsnob. he does a much better job of pressing edm artists on twitter than he does in person.

as far as i can tell this hasn't been covered in the general media. it's just in edm circles. and the grammy's haven't said anything. the likelihood that this could happen again is pretty high.

Seems like an intentional mockery of the system/grammys or some kind of borat-style prank.. I cant believe the guy would believe he could fool anybody into liking that song & video via his grammy award..

great find ed. this is blowing up on twitter.

Apparently this is real. If you check the grammy website his name is there under best dance recording. scroll down to #9. http://www.grammy.com/nominees

According to house.net he somehow gamed the system.

Al Walser's Facebook fan page (with an impressive 1400 likes) indicates that he is a "Grammy Voting and Nominating member." However, after reviewing the rosters for the 12 regional Grammy Academy chapters, we were unable to locate anyone named any variation of "Al Walser."

A record label executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity, believes that Al Walser blatantly manipulated the nomination process to get his name included on the final list of nominess.

"I don't know how he did it, [The Grammy Academy Administrators] are very strict usually. They make you leave the room if your stuff is being voted on, things like that. It's obvious that there is no way that this guy could have legitimately gotten himself included, but it's amazing that he pulled this off. Amazing and sad."

them calling 1400 likes impressed makes me call this story into question but we'll see as it develops.

as i'm typing this post, tweets about this story keep coming in. is this the kind of quality investigative journalism to put spin magazine back on the map? lol

Edit: liking some of the facebook comments:

"Trolling the Grammys? Well played Al Walser..... Well Played"

"well only 14 minutes left of fame. GG"

and that song is absolute donkey shit

what the hell is going on?

edit: i found some additional info on a way older website that says al is on the grammy nominating committee. just saying.

double edit: i'm clearly missing something as this doesn't seem to be real and now I'm just well confused.
