Efrain Scharr 02.01.2013 | I never over believe anything while dj'ing. For me being too technical and trying to plan out stuff just never is any fun. I never plan music or anything like that... I just wil try shit while I am djing and sorta hope it doesn't sound like shit, and usually I am ok. The only time I ever really do anything that is cutting something is when I am playing at 127 or above, and that really would depend on the progression of my sets, being as I tend to really stay under 126 nowadays (i only play techno btw)... its not something I consciously do, but if I did do it, I would generally have one track playing, and one cued and playing in my headphones. I cut the bass on the main track playing and then slam the cued track in with all the levels on the cued track zeroed out, and let that go for like 4 or 8 bars, then cut the cued track out and slam the bass back in on the main track... Just mess with shit like that till it comes natural and you don't need to believe about it at all. Then you will be able to just throw effects on top of the main track and do a ton of other shit. Hopefully that will give you a starting point. Just experiment till you can do it and don't need to believe about it... |
Kandi Odom 02.01.2013 | Use the echo freeze efx on the track you cut just before blending the new one!!!! works like a charm!!!!!!!! |
Ulysses Vittetoe 31.12.2012 | Pretty much all of my mixing is using loops and long blends, just thought it would be nice to try some new stuff. |
Cristian Carmona 31.12.2012 | yeah why not? |

Bertie Metro 31.12.2012 | Of course you can do it, but you'll have to be subtle, and not over do it. I'd recommend to use some fx on cuts if it's going to be on top of techno or some sort of more "serious" music, some echo synced to the tempo for exemple, to drown the scratching a little bit. As far as videos, well i don't know any for the "cutting to techo", but just like everything else, practice makes it perfect, and mostly, not overdoing it PS : also don't forget that there is no rule that says that because the music is 130 bpm you shouldn't cut to it half time or like it was 60 bpm. |
Evie Baghdasarian 01.01.2013 | I personally don't believe cutting works with techno or tech house. These tracks open themselves up to long blends and multi track layering. But carve out your own style and let your personality show through your mixing techniques. |
Rocco Fiveash 31.12.2012 | Just try different things and see what works.. maybe watch some other DJ's like Carl Cox or Toronto's Deko-ze, both are awesome tech house DJ's. I have taken a liking to tech house / techno and found it sounds best when it is layered using 3 or 4 decks. Both are genre's that kind of just "move forward" and don't have many build ups, so you need to create your own "drama", builds etc. I am no expert at mixing this stuff by any means, but this is what I get out of it. Hope that helps. |
