Itunes DRM Tracks dont work in Traktor 2?
Posted on: 27.10.2011 by Granville Cerullo
I'm kind of surprised that Traktor 2 isnt supporting itunes purchases? Am I doing something wrong? I can import tracks from beatport just fine, but it seems that itunes purchases cant be imported.. this really sucks

Its weird because it works fine with my beatport mp3s.
You probably have your collection as the folder all your main downloads go into, not the itunes main music folder.

In my case, I drag all my beatport downloads into my iTunes folder and open them in iTunes. Only downloads done outside of iTunes work at the moment. Makes me believe it has to do with iTunes more than traktor. Maybe it's a sign that I need to focus more on Ableton. I'll double check tomorrow but I believe all tracks work in ableton.

So after an searching the last couple days, this is the closest to the problem I'm having. Out of the blue (I'm sure it is something I did not knowing) all my tracks that are in iTunes won't load in decks in traktor. I get the typical error message about location, corrupt, drm, etc. I'm hoping someone knows what I may have done to cause this so I can reverse it without duplicating all my files as mp3's like stated above. There has to be a setting somewhere or something I accidentally clicked that can be clicked again and have everything work. It is just songs that I have downloaded from iTunes. Either playing directly from iTunes in traktor or from my collection. Any help would be great. My axiom just gave me a blue screen of death and now this. I'm getting pretty frustrated. It may be time to "office space" my computer.

Download a DRM remover like "Drm Removal" it worked for me. easy and fast...

Great, at least we're making progress, but I haven't had to convert iTunes AAC files to mp3 since version 1.24 I believe. There were bugs with playback of AAC files, but they still found them and loaded into the deck fine. I still believe you have an underlying problem with where or how you store your music.

well I'll be damned. You were close! This is what I had to do, for reference's sake:

Tunes > preferences > general. click on import settings, then import using and select MP3 encoder. below, select the desired bit rate.

next, highlight the files to be converted in iTunes and choose create MP3 version from the advanced menu.

There's no way this can be DRM, iTunes quite doing that years ago. Where do you have iTunes set to store music? In the iTunes preferences pane select advance and it will tell you the file path there. When you buy a song from Beatport, where does it go? Check in Traktor preferences where it's set to pull music from. In iTunes you can convert it to an mp3 with absolutely no DRM, by right clicking and selecting convert to mp3. Check that 320k mp3 is selected in import options in iTunes.

Also, when you first hit import to collection did it show anything working in the status bar?

I doubt its drm if you just bought it. They havn't used drm for ages.
I reckon its something to do with your folder structure. Make sure everything in traktor is pointing to the right folders.
I had a track that wouldnt load yesterday because I edited the name in itunes after id imported. It caused there to be 2 files showing in traktor, the original which wouldnt play because it was looking for a file name that didnt exist, and the new one which worked fine. Just deleted the old one from collection.

Does this sound familiar?

"the track blablabla" could not be played due to a missing or corrupted file, unsupported format or drm protection

What happens if you just load the track into a deck?

Sorry for the delay, damnit, i got a bunch of tracks i can't find on my other legal sites on itunes, I NEED THEM! I just dont understand why its not working..

I'm running the latest version of itunes, traktor

1- opened up itunes
2- bought princess of china by coldplay and Rihana for 1.29
3- the track shows up in my itunes lib
4- I open up traktor 2
5- I click on the itunes collection tab in traktor
6- the tine shows up and is there
7- i right click on it, i see 3 options; i do "import to collection"
8 - i select the "track collection tab, i see the track with cover art"
9- if I do "analyse (async), it doesnt do anything at all in the status bar, then if i do detect bpm, it says "could not dertermine bpm because track blablabla has never been been analyzed"

This is beyond unfuriating, I got like 150$ worth of tracks buying on itunes and this wont work at all

I'm on a laptop running vista.

UPDATE - WHAT IT THIS? I redownloaded the track on my imac desktop, and the same procedure worked perfectly.. I'm able to add the tracks with no problems on the imac.

I have no problems using iTunes tracks. Exactly what is happening for you? Explain your work flow a little so we an see if you are doing something wrong.

Yep, iTunes tracks haven't had DRM for few years now

New itunes tracks should be fine, they aren't drm protected.

Old ones you'll have to convert to mp3 in itunes first. Then i delete the drm protected version
