Midifighter Top-Left LED Problem (Win7 X64)

Hello Everyone

I recently have defeated a problem that has left my MidiFighter worthless for 4 months.
I speak of the Led of Death...
What happens is once you plug your MidiFighter into your Pc...All you get is the top led on the left side to light up...

Whell its taken quite some time but after much research I have Fixed this sole problem, and of course its a driver signature problem.

Step 1: You are going to need to put your MidiFighter into a DFU state.
To do this you are going to have too put jumpers into the Boot holes and the restart holes on your MidiFighters Left side
See this tutorial: Click Here!

Step 2: Next you are going to need a series of Things. First the ATMEL Flip program found found here: Atmel Flip 3.4.2
Be sure to Uninstall any previous versions of this program
and then install this version!

Then the .Hex file for the update
.Hex File as of 3/13/11

Next this is IMPORTANT!
You NEED these drivers
Flip Signed Drivers

Now go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Flip 3.4.2\usb and replace the files in this folder with the ones you have downloaded

Step 3:
You will need to go to Devices and Printers

And then
Go to Hardware and Sound

And finally Device manager

And you will have something along the lines of this...

Now you are going to want to find the MidiFighter in its DFU state
I cant show you this because I already did mine.
So find it and Update the Driver by Right clicking it and selecting update driver.

When you do this you will want to "Browse Computer for Driver Software"
and the location is the same C:\Program Files (x86)\Atmel\Flip 3.4.2\usb

Click next and let it go

After that go to the Flip Program and Click the image of the chip.
Then select AT90USB162

Then press Ctrl+U On your keyboard and then click Open.

Once it connects go to File, Load Hex file, and select the previously downloaded Hex file.

Then Run in the left corner

And you should be set.

Sure no worries ... I've reopened the closed ticket from August last year. It's just awaiting assignment.

Hey sikosis - contact support and they will provide you with a guide/instructions on how to fix it. There is an application which works on OSX which can be used to bring the midifighter back to the stage where it will communicate with the Midi Fighter Utility again

Okay ... I finally got access to Windows 7 64bit machine. Only had Windows 7 32bit and I mainly run Macs.

So I followed these steps:-

1) Put jumper on boot
2) Plug in USB to MF and PC

I then got the following prompt ... http://sikosis.com/mf/device-driver-not-installed.jpg

3) Put jumper on reset
4) Remove jumper on reset

Assuming at this point I'm in DFU mode. (Does this stand for Don't F--- Up ?)

5) Downloaded and Installed Flip
6) I then copied the signed drivers into appropriate directory

Device Manger looks like this ... http://sikosis.com/mf/device-manager.jpg

7) Run Flip ... http://sikosis.com/mf/running-flip.jpg

8) Thought I'd install and run the MF Update and see what it says

So, I'm at a loss as to what to do now. I feel like I wasted my money and have a fancy paperweight instead.

@Dubba Dutch
Im sorry to say but I can't help you when it comes to mac.
I used to own a Mac book pro and this is before I owned a Midi Fighter so I would have no idea as how to begin to solve this problem.
My only idea at the moment is use a buddys Windows PC possibly.

After a month long wait my midi fighter cue master landed today, worked fine on first try and now only a couple of hours later it seems I have the same LED of death issue, rubbish!

If I open up Audio Midi setup in OSX, the Midi Fighter is no where to be seen, so I'm pretty sure it's the same driver issue. Tried different USB leads, everything else works fine apart from the Midi Fighter.

After spending some time searching the community s, this post seems to be only place to get some answers but on a Windows system.

Is there a Thread I'm missing that gives clear instructions on how to over come this issue on a Mac?

Nice one to Autorobo for detailing a fix to this problem on a PC, especially considering the four months it's taken you to solve it! After just 4 hours off faffing around I'm so pissed off, I'm all but ready to take a hammer to the bloody thing.

My Midifighter doesn't show up in Device Manager and when I run Flip and press Ctrl-U, I get "AtLibUsbDfu.dll not found".

Its not on the Atmel Site. Whether or not Atmel has included Win7 x64, Is beyond my knowledge.

It pretty much doesn't respond to anything. The computer doens't even recognize its existence until you jump it with small wires. It was essentially a dead device.

If you need more help PM me and ill gladly try my best to assist

can you please post a working link for the signed drivers? i can't find them anywhere on Atmel's site. copying those drivers is the only thing you've done differently, and i have yet to be able to flash my Midifighter from my own PC. it's my understanding that there's been recent Atmel support updates for Win7x64.

and another question --what do you mean by the LED-of-death problem? i mean i get what you're saying, but aside from the LED, what was wrong with it?
