Beginner Buying First Controller
Posted on: 20.01.2013 by Asley Reisenauer
I recently started to learn how to DJ, and I'm looking to buy my first controller.

I'll use Traktor with a MacBook Pro.

I plan to be a mobile DJ who will play only digital tracks.

Could anyone recommend a basic controller where I can learn the fundamentals?

I've been reading about the Denon DJ MC3000.

Thanks.

Buy you're self an S2 my friend. The S2 for $450 is perfect for you're budget and as people have said a perfect beginner controller. All of my mixes on soundcloud were done with the S2 so you can listen for you're self. Part is the controller , and part is how much time and skill you put into it.

THeres no point in people shooting ideas at you until you know your budget mate.

Also you need to have played with the software enough to know what your needs are and what you need a controller to be able to do for your workflow.

You totally waste your money on ANY cheap controller if you find that you cannot control the software in the way you anticipated. Does it have enough knobs, buttons do you need jogs. All questions that you need to ask yourself.

If you do not learn the software first (and you may well have done that) you will end up buying something that you will soon sell on and have to buy something else.

Buying twice due to bad research is the most common mistake.

Sorry, no link, I'm sure someone will post it, but digitaldjtips has a controller buyers guide, read that and pick the ones you like, and tell us which, and why. Only then can we give you advice that will help. Otherwise everyone is going to recommend the controllers they like, and you will be in the same position you are in now.

Also take a look at the NI Traktor S2. Great controller for the beginner (like myself) and designed with Traktor in mind.
