Suggestions on DJ Headphones?!
Posted on: 23.01.2013 by Shonna Trantow
My last pair of sennheiser headphones were destroyed at a house gig. I'm looking forward to buying another pair of headphones.

My price range $100-150.

Suggestions?

Not half as annoying as the swiveling cups meaning you need to untangle every three tracks - I hate the bloody things with a vengeance.

Frequency Range:30 -16,000Hz
Not great if you are a person who can still hear frequencies above 16k

My Sony MDR-V6's go from 5

Yes exactly the ones sorry I thought those were the ones talked about. The bass isn't any more exaggerated than most DJ headphones in my opinion; in general their sound is really nice. But yeah that crack at the hinge is exactly what happened to three different pairs I had ... Sorry I didn't remember the numbers; I believe the last time I used a set was 2001 or something.

those are what i use and i like them very much. i was able to get 2 pairs new (one for me and my gf) from guitar center for $75 each by a slick price matching deal a couple of years ago. you can grab them for about $120 now. they sound great to me and are pretty comfortable but i hit my threshold at about 2 hours of constant wearing. that seems to happen on most headphones for me though.

i was considering a pair of beyerdynamics as well, but when i got that deal on the ath50s i had to take it as i couldn't find a lower price on those. i will say the dts are the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried on...by leaps and bounds. it's like wearing velvet pillows and they sound great too.

My Sony MDR-V6's go from 5–30,000 Hz. 13 years old, only needed to replace the pads so far and they are far-far-far from end-of-life.

And are around $70 .. the same headphone as MDR-7506 without the gold connector and few bucks cheaper.

Regards the HD-25 though, The do sound great, nice and light and sit on my head pretty well .. But the cables Ugh!!! FFS Replaceable parts are great and all, but my mates were always needing new cables every other week and they are not THAT cheap.
im going to agree with you on the cables

the red and black connectors (going into the drivers) are the weakest point of the HD25 - after awhile sound will cut off on one side and requires some adjustment to fix

google this and you will find literally hundreds of posts of people complaining of the same thing

my hd25 is starting to go funny again now with the same problem

Those Sonys are great headphones for DJing but they break after a year, almost guaranteed.

The 25s work for me but I'm deaf. The AKG 701s are an amazing headphone for the price if a little ugly.

Those Sonys are great headphones for DJing but they break after a year, almost guaranteed. I went through three sets before looking at other phones because I liked the sound and fit so much. Now I use TMA-1s and love them; perfect sound isolation for my ear shape and the sound is fantastic. I believe HD-25s are really similar in terms of sound signature and fit. Some people prefer over-ears for isolation; to me those always sound leaky (I've used A+H XD-53s and Ortofon O-1s quite extensively and while both sound phenomenal - the Xones a bit better or at least louder - I had to turn them up too loud in loud clubs for my comfort level due to leakage). But this really depends on the shape of your ears and head because I have seen people say the exact opposite about the same cans.

If your budget is around $100 then the Sonys will be good for a year or so until you can afford better cans; hopefully they won't break before that. In the same price range you really can't go wrong with the Xone XD-40s or the Pioneer HDJ-500s, both of which will run $99 list. A bit more you can afford the ATH-50s which have a great reputation (I haven't listened to them myself but people whose ears I trust swear by them for production) for about $150 or so. But if you can afford to go a bit higher I highly recommend the TMA-1s or the XD-53s if you prefer over-ears.

I use Numark Electrowaves. I'm a big naysayer of Numark and bought the headphones out of desperation, planning to upgrade soon after, but I've actually grown quite fond of them. Comfy as anything, and they've got more bottom than Jennifer Lopez.

Beats are cheesy and cliche imo, i just picked up some sonys from best buys that were only 79.99 they are nice and clear with some legit bass. i was gonna go for some Monsters, but i saw these and for the price, it couldnt be beat, especially after listening to the madeon demo they had with em haha, they are built for djing and look nice, as far as durability goes i coudndt say because i have only had them for a month, but so far so good.

Senns HD25's to be honest OP, as many have said above, proven over years. Although I own and use Technics RP-DJ1200's which I've had for 17 years+, still the same pair and not let me down once, they've been heavily gigged and I will admit the cups are well worn and there is a bit of tape support the arms, they're still spot on audio wise after all the bashing they've had.

Great bang-for buck, multi-purpose cans. They make headphones for companies like Allen & Heath!

Over ear 50's mean great isolation, they fit comfortably and they pull double duty as production monitor headphones too! In the states I believe they run between 100-150. I've had mine almost a year now and have taken them all over Thailand, where the travelling can be rough at times. They're still going strong.

Forget about it. Go big or go home! Get some beyerdynamic t70p headphones and then get them recabled for a longer cable and then seal the ports by BTG AUDIO!!! Out of your price range. But save man. and you wont ever look back

i have my sennheiser hd25 for 5+ years now (maybe longer - ITS OLD)

the only problem is the sound cutting off sometimes (and needs to wiggle the plugs a bit) but they always continue to work at the end of the day

and man they get trashed!

I managed to pickup the HDJ 1500's for 135, and was pleasantly suprised. Really nice isolation, comfortable (and you can swap over HDJ-2000 earpads if you prefer), and while I found them a touch bass heavy, I find that it's ideal when trying to beat-match your kicks.

Otherwise you can't go wrong with the Sennheiser HD 280 pro's. Had mine for almost 9 years, and loved them to bits

Anything with a warranty. Headphones are notorious for breaking, doesn't matter if they are five hundred dollars or seventy dollars they all break. Get a warranty and save yourself the hassle.
