Does anybody by vinyl anymore?

I put up some of my old records on ebay. I have about 2000 I only have 40 on ebay at this point. Depending how they do, I plan on auctioning off them all one at a time, maybe put together a few bundles.

I never liked the sound of them compared to uncompressed digital audio, so I don't buy vinyl of "listening music," and I have no plans at all to ever DJ with vinyl again

A friend of mine that's opening a record store (new & used) just came by and offered me $1,700 for the whole collection. I took him up on the offer. Could have made a lot more probable by selling them online, but I could also get a minimum wage paying job that would pay me more per hour and with less effort and time than it takes to sell records one at a time online.

Crazy how quick life can change direction on you.

Whoa, there's a lot more responses to this thread then I thought. That's really cool that you all are so supportive of vinyl. I LOVE my records. I traveled from Alaska to the west indies buying and shipping records back home. I spent 1000's of dollars on this collection. I always thought it would be worth more as time went on, but that was a foolish thought, unless I wait a hundred years. I have so much emotion wrapped up in these records. Like being in a crusty thrift store for over 3 hours with my neck in severe pain just to find that ONE funky jazz LP, things like that. But I don't see the point in dragging 400 lbs of wax around for the rest of my life. And emotions are cool, but I can't sell the emotion that's attached to a record, otherwise they'd be worth a million bucks each. So I really am having a mental dilemma with letting these go, but I have decided it's time.

Oh, and to the guys who feel I am charging to much, talking about the record costing a dollar at the thrift store. I know, your totally right, I should take that into consideration and believe about how to sell those pieces. It cost about 4 bucks to ship a record, so I'm believeing about putting those more common ones in big 50 to 100 record lots.

And to the dude that said he doesn't even like the sound of records and prefers .mp3's. I understand you, for sure. But when I started DJing, no one know what the hell a .mp3 was. I used to drag 10 crates of records around the city with me, it was a full workout just getting up into the club. How much does an .mp3 weigh? Can you put it in a frame and put it on your wall because you love it that much? Can you hold a .mp3 in your hand and wonder were it was before it got there, who had listen to that exact copy your holding before you? You gotta understand were the vinyl lover comes from, man.

Iiiiight, typed to much, sorry, piece out.

Again, thanks guys for your comments, I will hopefully post another 50 pieces this weekend.

I buy vinyl monthly. Probably set a bigger budget for records than i do MP3's (i know you need a bigger budget for less quantity).

Opening a new vinyl still feels so much better than opening a new track in itunes (no hate towards itunes as i have been using since it first came on the go and believe technology should move forward )

Wow you got some funky ass tunes for sale there. But your prices are unrealistic IMHO. Then again if you're really patient and you don't mind selling one every couple months or so you will probably do well like this, as long as someone somewhere is looking for this or that track and is willing to pay top dollar for it. But if you really want the records to move, lower your price expectations.

Discogs.com also seems like the place to buy/sell individual records as well.

I buy it when I can find it. Sadly most record stores around here have closed. Interesting side note, watch I Need That Record for an interesting look into mainstream music/radio and media in general. Great movie.

I buy them, but usually only at bargain prices. That Club Nouveau is at the local Goodwill for $1.
