best cd players <$500
best cd players <$500 Posted on: 25.03.2012 by Chandra Lean i am looking to enter the cd playing world, and i am loooking to spend no more than $500 for a cd player that doubles as a controller (HID or MIDI). so far i have come down to the following.Reloop RMP-3 alpha, Pioneer cdj-400 (discont...) american audio Radius 3000. Stanton CMP-8. can anyone here shed some light on the rmp-3? ive used the others so far and just need some reviews on the reloop. it seems like a sweet product for the price. | |
Carletta Riemer 21.01.2014 | I'm curious why the Hanpin players can't function as a soundcard interface like the Gemini. There's a USB, a DSP, and a DAC inside, after all. |
Jorge Furber 16.01.2014 | I've only ever used the CDJ-400 and I love them. I will only trade them for some CDJ-900/2000 when I get the budget. |
Carletta Riemer 16.01.2014 | Looks like a cosmetically different version of the Usolo FX, also made by the OEM Akiyama or Hanpin. I assume it inexplicably also cannot function as a soundcard. The bad BPM algorithm is a carry over from the 10bit all-in-one version (Synchron, MP-X10, Versadeck, DMC2000, DJinn, S20, S60, S70). Can you at least just turn the bpm readout off like on the Versadeck? These Akiyama/Hanpin designs, other than the lack of AIFF on some of them and the all-in-one's issue with buffering properly, are really nice sounding units with a lot of functionality. They do not have sync built in and in my opinion are competitive with the original & sane SL-1200 price bracket and with a feature set that could become a sort of evening club standard. The all-in-one's mixer is lacking in the sound quality department, but these standalone units can show off just how good the DACs are. The RMP-3 also adds a digital out. EAT IT, PIONEER! Gemini could have been the new alternative, but they dropped the ball on not building-in USB drive sharing. So very close, Gemini... |

Carlee Newhoff 18.04.2012 | Cool thanks for the response. I hadn't really looked at the Radius 3000 as i have heard some people say american audio is pure junk, but those look nice too, with decent reviews. None of the controls on the Reloop are linked to the bpm are they? So if you ignore it all together nothing is changed like the auto loop function or anything is it? |
Chandra Lean 17.04.2012 | i got the reloops. likes: jogwheel resolution for nudging is awesome, you don't need to move it more than you would expect, (unlike 350's) jogwheels move smoothly as well, (unlike 400's 350s) if you are into fx then, the effects have a pretty good quality, (not djm 900 good) but damn close, and you have the ability to adjust parameters via jogwheel i like the sample bank, but i am not keen on the save method. all the LED's and the display are bright, and easy as hell to read. The ability to link up two players to read off of one is awesome, and the bitrate on the second player is almost never unchanged. ( i haven't actually used CD's yet as i just ordered about 100) dislikes: the auto BPM sucks ass, nowhere near computer specs, and it changes often. i recommend just tapping the BPM ^ my only dislike. in comparison the radius 3000 is about the same, but for $100 less. and can read SD cards as well as having a tracking LED light on the jogwheel. |
Carlee Newhoff 17.04.2012 | Hey man, get the reloops yet? Im in a similar position, looking to get some cdjs in a few months or so and want to start researching. |
Chandra Lean 10.04.2012 | i have used the american audio radius 3000's on and off, for about 2 years at a local store, and those are pretty solid. it was a tough choice between the AA, and reloop. you can expect a review within next week. |
Verlene Geevarghese 10.04.2012 | I'm anxious to hear your opinion of them, I'm about to splurge on some replacements and have been torn between these and CMP.800's. There has yet to be a real decent review on them, as they seem to be hard to get your hands on. |
Chandra Lean 10.04.2012 | i got a pair of RMP-3's coming i will let everyone know how they are, ive used 350's, 900's, and 2000's before so i am not too ignorant on cd players, but i also wasn't able to afford anything over a certain price range. |
Evelyn Navarijo 09.04.2012 | Of the little I've used them, I quite like the Denon 1200s, they feel a lot better than the CDJ 350, can't speak for the 400 though, I hear it's good. |
Stormy Tomasik 07.04.2012 | I nabbed a used pair of dns1200 a couple of months back from guitar center but hated them as soon as i plugged them in. The platter feels really cheap and its a tiny unit. It was more of an impulse buy as I heard that they where decent players but didn't really like them so i took em back. I'd say the 400's all the way. Pioneer's are standard in all the clubs (at least where i'm from) so you'll feel right at home if you gig at a bar/club. |

Chandra Lean 29.03.2012 | im really close to getting the RMP-3 |
Alla Bluemke 28.03.2012 | Im a fan of the 400s but I can't compare to any of the other units cause I have never used them. |
Yong Aptekar 28.03.2012 | The RMP3 looks pretty cool! Being able to run 2 cd decks off of one usb, or FX modulation with the platter....I really like that unit. And it comes in white for the stormtroopers. |
