Dj Craze faking his new routine?
Posted on: 31.01.2013 by Janella Gripe
No doubt that craze is a kick-ass turntablist but his last routine is a bit suspicious.
(or am I seeing ghosts?)

Check 1.10 in the video

Edit: Just saw this on Craze's fb-page

"DID THIS LIL VID TO PROMOTE MY REMIX FOR BIRDY NAM NAM'S "DEFIANT ORDER" .... ITS NOT LIVE, JUST SHOWING HOW I CREATED IT

http://news.beatport.com/blog/2013/01/31/dj-craze-cuts-up-birdy-nam-nam-in-a-live-session/"

Very strange that beatport calls it a "live" routine...

we've had this discussion a few times already, with other videos, but I am still left wondering where and when we can call out fake stuff? because once you start editing and more importantly "over-dubbing" which this clearly has, doesn't that open up the door to completely "miming" a live performance over a studio created track?

So if I take "fresh" & cut it up into "fr..fr..fresh" play that back and then mime a scratch over it, is that "cheating", because I am just curious how much deception is acceptable and where and when you would say enough.

both were great videos, i believe you guys are just over looking the gist of the routines. Practice over and over and those routines, become just that, a routine.

This guy has been in the game for minute i'm sure its a fault in the film production.

I believe its pretty awesome that skrillex asked him to basically release a turntablist routine/live remix on his label

it will be editing mistakes...the thing with semi pro and prosumer gear s and DSLRs is that they cant be genlocked to each other, so on a multi camera shoot, the cameras have to be sync'd manually in post...so errors in the actual edit can happen although the audio will be uneffected

I've watched that Switch/JFB routine a million times, how have I not noticed that before?!

It's all bs when it comes to video editing... as someone already said it's made to look good. If it was all live, you'd see cameras in loads of shots as they switch from one camera to the next. Just look at the Switch & JFB 'Fatboy Slim' routine.
(go on, watch it, it's a good one!)
The Ortofon on Switch's right deck turns into a.. um.. Shure? (not sure tho!) which JFB lent him after his fkd up half way through filming. It was confirmed to me though that the audio was done in one take which is the important bit after all! Now I remember why I got into Music and not TV!!
Remember kids, the camera never lies... except for when it would look bad if it didn't!

As he said, it's not filmed live. It's more an error in video production than anything. I wouldn't doubt his skills. I'm sure he could rip that routine out live.

Ah, I see what you mean. So I had missed something after all. Haha.

I was just confused by the fact that the turntable starts to spin by itselfs.

1.11: turntable stops
1.13: turntable magically starts?

However, Craze himself says it wasn't live so its just a compilation of different recordings

Just before 1:10 he starts doing a section where he's transforming on a long tone, sometimes giving the record a flick forward to make the "note" of the tone go higher, and sometimes touching the edge of the platter to make it go lower. Unless I missed something that makes you believe it's fake, I believe you might just be misinterpreting what he's actually doing.
