Build an S4 copy, would it be possible????

I don't know if anyone has started a thread about doing something like this, but I was believeing it wouldn't be too difficult to do. I could strip down all gear I've built, put it in to one box, and 'Hey Presto', there you have it an S4.

For the record I have got the guts of 2 x EKS XP 10's, 1 x X-Session Pro, 1 x LPD 8 and 1 Leo Bodnar game controller. Well, that is 5 usb ports to the S4's one, but I reckon I could get something close to it with the gear I've got lying around the house.

Obviously I wouldn't have the S4 software but I'm praying we get an upgrade to something as near as damn it.

Oh, and I would be putting arcade buttons on it to......

Yeah, I don't fancy doing the metalwork/plastic myself this time.

All the parts I have were bought from Ebay anyway....

Shame it's difficult to get touch sensitive jogs to work, I find them really useful!

why not use my VU meter hack? see my signature... very easy to setup

also, bare in mind that the XP10 touch sensitive jogs seem to react to non-metal objects as well... I've been really struggling with this I might have to make them non-touch-sensitive and use a switch to change them between scratch/jog.

I've just looked at some of the vids coming out now and there's no way I will be able to put VU meters or any fancy shit on any kind of controller.

I'm going to stick with basic functionality and layout as best I can.

Just remembered, if I'm using the EKS XP10's I can't use any metalwork. It really fucks about with the touch sensitivity on the jog wheels.

find a metal worker to do you a custom metal plate for the top

I don't believe it will be too expensive with the parts I have. I was doing a bit of believeing today whilst driving, did a few mental sums and I believe I have enough buttons, encoders and pots lying around to complete at least half of it.

My main problem would be finding a decent box to put it in. I've done a few mods before and never been 100% happy with them. Now I know what I want to do. It's just whether I will be able to do it. Getting the time to do it is also a problem

$$$ but you have most all of the parts you would need anyway, so do it.

Well if you attempt it I'll be keeping track of the project that's for sure!

I'd call it highly ambitious. I'm assuming the build quality of the S4 is as good as the X1 making it bloody brilliant, you'd have to be careful not to end up with something very scrappy and plasticky looking. If it's anything like the "CDJ2000 style DIY controller" that someone's doing at the moment you'll be getting up into the hundreds of pounds building it anyway!
