S4 beatgridding trouble (another one)
S4 beatgridding trouble (another one) Posted on: 26.01.2011 by Onie Sarandos For the first few weeks I had the S4, it seemed like it analyzed/auto gridded tracks perfectly. However, it has been way off on some tracks I picked up recently from itunes + beatport. For example, avicii's mix of robyn's "hang with me" gets analyzed as either 71.22, 142. 56 or even 171.68. When i try to set the grid myself, when I get one marker on a beat, the other markers are so uneven that it seems impossible to get them on beat. (i have gridded some of my older tracks with no problem). Anyone else having similar issues, or can point me in the right direction, or have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks. | |

Len Lukawski 30.01.2011 | I had a hell of a time beatgridding my D&B. There was the frequent half timing of tracks but that was an easy fix. Even though I was getting tracks to loop cleanly they still weren't mixing without a good deal of jog wheel nudgery (that will be in the dictionary soon enough). I thought there was something wrong with the S4, or that my expectation as to the S4's ability to lock in beatmixes once the grids were in place was unreasonably high. Turns out the grids were still off. I used Ean's method of using a reference track (I used The Green Man, Subz & Matik's "Kyoto Pressure"), manually mixing he track I need beatgrid it and then using the <||| and |||> buttons to move the phasemeter back to the center and then lock the target track's BPM. I will use the autogridding to get me close on tracks it can cope with but my practice is to manually beatgrid everything myself. The tapping works very well when Traktor reports the BPM as "pineapple" or something equally accurate or usable. Good luck! |
Leeanna Ayla 28.01.2011 | My S4 has been gridding my songs much better than Pro ever did. Granted it's mostly 4/4 stuff, but also quite a bit of funk and other odd stuff. |
Aracely Mcalvey 28.01.2011 | Maybe this is a placebo effect, or I'm just fooling myself, but it seems like if I set the tempo via tap at the beginning, middle, and end of the song, I usually get it lined up the entire time and I'm good to go. |
Andree Ganas 28.01.2011 | Sometimes I will get a track that just won't grid properly. I have found that using the tap button on the grid box usually gets everything lined up 98% accurate (just keep tapping until it looks right). After that, I just make sure my 1st grid cue point is were it needs to be and fine tune the grid as it needs. |

All my House and Techno gets gridded spot on 99% of the time, but any of my Trip-Hop and Downtempo tends to be a mess. It's one of the few things Traktor isn't good at/for. |
Onie Sarandos 26.01.2011 | Great-thanks. I will try the above. |
Nedra Fresneda 26.01.2011 | try narrowing the BPM detection range (so you don't get doubles). when i get a bad gridded track i just type 126 (or whatever value is close to the genre's "standard" BPM)and work it from there or tap to the beat. might be the track's transistienst messing with the detection algorithm |
