Speakers for home DJ use and small parties

Hi all,

First post so be gentle.

I am a complete speaker noob. But I am looking for a new speaker setup for say an S4. I currently use Harman Kardon soundsticks, which are good for my room but when I take them to a party or try to crank them up for a pre party they just don't cut it.

So I am in the market for some new speakers, but ones that are good enough for home use and incase I have a few people over, should be no more than 15 people. It's a medium sized room.

I don't fancy forking out for monitors as I know once a few drinks have been consumed they will eventually get blown.

I was perhaps looking at these;

Or will I be better with a small PA active speakers such as;

If the cabinets were +3dB@1w@1m more sensitive than your reference, would you be willing to go with 50 watts RMS each?

I would assess the speaker cabinets by evaluating the SPL-v-frequency charts, polar plots, power handling, and other parameters against my needs. No charts, no specs, no sale, no exceptions.

How is the bass on them when they are high up?
The max SPL is 123dB, thats for one, so two of them together are great. The first time i used them was at my girlfriends house party and they were so i got a complaint from the local council.... But, we never knew where the complaint came from because no one lived near the house, the closest person was 2 streets away haha

The bass is good for such small speakers, I dont have a stand (im going to buy some though, that deal you have on ebay is unbelievable considering the speakers themsevles when orginally sold were

Sorry, what I mean is, I can just plug and go? As they may be on the move quite a bit so if I can just link them straight to my output then that would be perfect.

SPL has EVERYTHING to do how loud speakers will get.

05.02.2013		Regarding bass on small speakers:

if you believe the bass is too low try placing the speakers right in front of a wall, or even better in the corners, which will lead to a boost in the bass frequencies.

04.02.2013		I am going to save you a lot of headache and upgrade issues later on. Ger yourself a nice pair of 8" active PA monitors. Get the best you can afford. DO NOT EXPECT ANY BASS FROM THESE SPEAKERS. They are not designed for bass output, this is true for all PA speakers, even the ones with 15" drivers. When you have money you will want to add 1-2 matching subs, that is where you will get your bass.

Here is an example. I have not heard these so I don't know if they are worthwhile. Personally I prefer EV and JBL.
