Successful Gig w/ S4+Midi Fighter+X1

Had a very successful gig last evening with the S4, Midi Fighter (using Instant Gratification), an X1 (custom mapping for decks C/D and various super knobs) and Traktor Pro 2.

You can see a pic of the setup attached and check out the set at djmilgauss.com, if you're interested!

Prior to the show had a couple very occasional hiccups in Traktor Pro 2 (say maybe every two or three hours). Here are the two things that completely fixed any audio glitches on my Macbook Pro:

1. I noticed in Console that I was getting an error with QuickTime trying to make thumbnails of files on my desktop. This would cause OS X to beach ball and glitch Traktor. Clicking on Finder->View Options and deselecting "Show Icon Preview" solved the problem.

2. Also had another occasional glitch from Spotlight having problems with indexing drive (showed up as an mdutil error in Console). I fixed the glitch by adding the main hard drive under the "Prevent spotlight from searching these locations" in System Preferences->Spotlight->Privacy. Finally, by entering "sudo mdutil -a -i off" in Terminal, you can completely stop OS X from running Spotlight indexes.

I've yet to have one even small glitch after making these changes! Hope that helps someone.

Likely not related. Spotlight is the OS X search bar in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Occasionally, it will fire up in the background and can hang quite severely. Google "disable spotlight OS X" to see people complaining about this.

Every time I had a Traktor glitch (as I mentioned it was very rare), I would immediately check the Console and saw mdutil (Spotlight's program) throwing some sort of error. After disabling it, no probs.

Traktor always runs best when you DJ from the collection.
