S4/TP2 Via USB3.0

S4/TP2 Via USB3.0

Prepping for S4/TP2 installation and upgrade I was told that S4 is NOT USB3.0 compliant. Tried using USB3.0 - been running TP1.2.7 and TP2 in parallel with S4 - mixing/recording/analyzing with output to monitors. Absolutely FLAWLESS. Not a SINGLE glitch.

Thanks FEP - that certainly seems to be the prevailing opinion. USB3.0 sure DOES work (flawlessly). I made the switch at the same time as my TP2 upgrade, so I'm probably experiencing an increased 'software efficiency'. If THAT is indeed plausible.

Great idea - any suggestions from the g33ks ?
Purely anecdotal Rukks - but I had the same experience with my original 1.2.7/X1 set-up.
Played a 2 hour set Friday - recorded 'live' and analyzed 'on-the-go' - not a SINGLE glitch.

this in incorrect. there IS an extra benefit from plugging USB 2.0 devices into USB 3.0 ports. USB 2.0 devices will be a tad faster on a USB 3.0 port (as the USB 3.0 host controller implements the USB 2.0 protocol more efficiently than a USB 2.0 host controller). I'm not gonna go through the trouble of providing links, but I assume the Wikipedia article as well as most reviews will support what I said.
Pretty comprehensive IKH. Kind of supports my experience that my S4 is CERTAINLY more "responsive" on USB3.0 (than on 2.0). I have contacted NI for their take on this - my concern being the higher amperage on 3.0. Let me say again - my S4/TP2 is running FAULTLESS on 3.0.

Just to be clear, there is no extra benefit from plugging the S4 in an USB 3.0 port as it wouldn't use the extra bandwidth available.

If you having problems with the ports then its hardware malfunction of the ports...it should work fine or submit a complaint to NI and they will patch it in the future...its obviously in the controller coding which is really odd.

/edit wow I should read the whole post....good work for submitting, hopefully this will not be an issue by the time i purchase my next laptop.
Never had issues with USB3.0 - apart from OLD flash drives which were ready to be trashed anyway. Backing up all my (WAV) music files is a doddle. I just want to make sure I am not risking anything by running my S4 through it. As I said - it works a dream - no drop outs, no delays and dare I say, more "responsive".
BTW - using DJTT USB cables.

FEP could you list your laptop and the chipset for the USB3 please.

To update you on USB3 and the KS4, whilst it is detected on most USB3 enabled machines, many of us can't get it working.

If you use the laptops internal sound, then no problems. However switching to S4 sound, the S4 will lock up.

I am currently working with Dell and Renasys on a fix .. (they blame NI of course).

Other "non audio" devices seem to be working with the latest FW from NEC/Renasys, although the KS4, ADJ8, ADJ4 don't work.

So if you have a laptop that is working on USB3, with Audio and HID enabled please let me know the spec of the laptop, driver versions and FW level of the USB3.

thanks

Thanks for feedback guys. I have ticketed NI for their opinion. There is nothing in the manual. The 'non-compliancy' was on the DJTT S4 setup sticky. I have however used my X1 with 1.2.7 via the USB3.0 port without any issues.

Could very well be. Personally I'd stick with the USB 2.0 ports as well as those are driven by controllers which are tried and tested. USB 3.0 controllers are still relatively new and have their issues.

(With controllers I mean the component in your computer that drives the ports, not the controller you plug into it.)

A lot of people have had problems for whatever reason with using USB2 midi controllers on USB3 ports. Too much power or bandwidth, I dno.
