S4 Flight Case Mods

S4 Flight Case Mods

d1st Modification
Added wires to limit the distance the laptop stand can travel. Used 4 screws and 2 pieces of random wire laying around. Maxes the movement to where i like it, just after the fx knobs to give me lots of space.

2nd Mod
Added a C14 power inlet on the back and hard wired the mac charger and s4 power supply straight to it. That means only 1 cable for power, and no messy powerbars or extension cords.

These will help make everything so hassle free. Hope you guys like it. PM me for a more extensive walkthrough.

i just found out (after making my own mod) that theres a little flip down piece of black metal on the front right of the laptop tray that limits the movement, its very usefull

also, i was inspired by fulbot to put in a light, so i took a trip down to long and mcquade and got some parts to do this:

i put in two female xlr's on each side of the case, left for a light, and right for mic connection.(xlr instead of 1/4) I also hid my mac charger by putting it under (as opposed to topside like before)

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to do. Looks good.

This is not a MOD but useful for the case. I purchased this: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053

I paid 25.99 in the store, I figured it would be useful if I had a long haul.

EDIT: It's not shown on the link but it folds up very small.

oh well, three things....
3) how much room is there from the back of the S4 to the back wall of the road case?

nice job BTW!!

1 theres only space for the s4 supply, the mac adapter i had to velcro to the top beside my macbook.. probably better for ventilation anyways

2 i guess i could have, but its all done and hard wired now anyways, next time i guess.

and 3 it must be about 4 or 5 inches.... about the size of a mac charger block thing, but it doesnt fit

DigiKey is where I bought my stuff. it shipped overevening on standard shipping. surprising and exciting

as to how to how i connected the wires on, i took one of these cables, and cut off the wall part. then i stripped back the leads and soldered it directly on to the terminals of the c14 inlet. the other end fits right into any macbook chager after removing either the folding blade accessory, or the long cable.

the s4 switching adapter (black thingy that usually goes on the wall) was different. I tried to find a way to wire it to the inlet without doing so permanantly, but no such way was found by me. I ened up just soldering two wires straight to the blades (when the tip; us, euro, uk, etc was removed) and wrapped it in electrical tape. the other ends were "piggybacked" on top of the mac cord, and then finally all wrapped in electrical tape

hope this helps!

At the very least clean up your wiring and add an inline fuse.

yeah. more pics up toevening , but basically i cut a small hole in the back of the case with a drill, then jigsawed and dremeled the edges until the inlet fit right in. there was some slight damage to some of the foam, but basically I just soldered the contacts on the s4 adapter straight to the contacts on the back of the c14 input, then two more from the mac charger straight to the same ports on the inlet. again, more detail and pics toevening
