Traktor S4 - JackAudio - Ableton - Oh FLAPS!

So I am doing that whole Traktor into Ableton thing. Before I throw the whole bloody kit and caboodle out of the window can someone tell me if I am wasting my time pursuing this using the S4's sound card?

I can get it to work in external mode but I lose all the controls in Traktor. I switch to internal and the only options are to route out through the master and monitor meaning that my Traktor output plays on all Ableton channels regardless of Traktor deck.

I'd rather not have to get another soundcard so I want to make sure I am not missing some inane detail with my current config.

The first person to solve my problem get's a [tbd]

I have Win7 on a pretty quick machine so I will give it a try and see what the performance is. I just downloaded the developer preview of Win8. I am going to try and find time to set that up.

There needs to be a common standard that enables just the midi to pass through and the tracks to be managed locally by each application......

My issue is that whatever the settings I try, as soon as I put jack audio as the default audio device inside traktor, the buffer size is 512 frames, I can't change that, it implies a too high latency to be able to have a good reaction using the hardware to control the decks, and just throw the idea out of the window to play with the vst. Bearing in mind I'm still using xp so that doesn't help at all. It's a whole new subject for me and I'm advancing blindly, I didn't find any valuable thread or tutorial to set up everything for windows. I tried again some days ago just to be faced with the same latency issue (and because of that syncing the two was just idiotic).

I tried also with Turnado (as a stand alone), using virtual audio cable and asio-for-all this time to see if I could pull out something interesting, but that's basically the same, I do have that boring latency issue I can't overcome (or may be I could but didn't find the right way).

ps: I started to put comments on the latest video but then I had to add a comment every 5, 10 (whatever) seconds or so, so I just left it as it was and will try to find the time to do that later. Or may be for another video.

I thought so. I found a way with Jack Audio to route back to Traktor using the default play device. I believe I am going to have to get an Audio 8 or Audio 10. Before I do that I want to see what the performance is like. From other threads you didn't seem to happy with it anyway... Did you find a usable setup or did you just walk away from the idea?

PS. Keep your videos upside down - I like them that way.

It depends what you want to achieve. If you want to route all 4 channels into different separate channels into ableton, forget it with the s4, not doable.
You can keep internal mode, you can route the master to ableton (so ouptut1&2) to ableton (input1&2) then you use your computer's soundcard to eventually route an additional channel from ableton into deck c or d. I cant' remember how to cue all that, I've forgotten some details ^^.
You still keep control of the decks in Traktor, switch eventually to midi mode to control ableton's vst if you don't have another controller (and switch back when needed).
What's true is that the S4 is definitely not the best item to manage all those.
Hey could you do me a favor please and make a screenshot of the settings you chose in jackaudio? That would be great, thanks.

Have a look if you didn't yet at Rainer's traktor bible site as he posted the whole routing idea (but for maschine), may be that could help you to see a bit clearer around the potential workarounds.
