My Setup:

So a while ago I bought a secondhand Mackie d.4 Pro. I also bought an S4 back in July. What I'd realized using the Mackie with it's soundcard and external mixing is that it makes Traktor sound so much more vibrant and warm. So I'm using my S4 for transport control, effects, and looping while mixing on the Mackie. Loving the analog filters on that thing. I've got an X1 for effects banks 3 and 4 (with the S4 getting 1 and 2). I've also got a midi fighter with the instant gratification mapping.

Why do you care?
Instant gratification mapping; try messing around with the dry/wet knob with effects like the reverb, delay, and gater. Don't forget that you still have manual control over these and you can add a lot more to your set than with the IG mapping alone.

External mixing, at least with my setup, sounds miles better than Traktor's internal mixer. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it.

Also, I turned off the phase meter and have been manually beatmatching with the S4. It's so much more fun to DJ this way than syncing or even beatmatching with the phase meter. The phase meter seems like a small thing, but my sets have improved drastically since I stopped using it - my style's just become better.
