Map footswitch to come out of loops?
Posted on: 08.11.2011 by Marcellus Ondrako
I've been using the footswitch on the S4 for the loop recorder, which I use on rare occasion. I was wondering if I could remap the switch to come out of loops (in the main decks). Basically if I start one or two loops in the main deck, and I'm messing around with filters/delay/reverb/etc, I don't have the free hand to kick the track back out of the loop. I'd love to be able to make the footswitch do this for me.

Is that possible?

I have looked at the softstep but the pads don't look spaced out enough for me to use properly in a gig situation. Seems like I would hit the wrong pads or two pads at once, etc. Maybe I just need to see it in person?

Glad to be of help.

You could get a midi controller that is foot operated and map what ever you want to it. With out remapping the S4. There is a nice one in the DJTT store. The soft step.

I can't even explain how much this is going to help me. Here is a quick demo of how I now have the free hands to mess around with filters and effects to make a pretty intense build-up (this is just two 8-bar loops playing).

Incredible!!!

Now I want two footswitches

In this community is a thread with a TSI that disables the loop recorder and turns it into a super knob with the buttons acting as fx load buttons for different fx combos. You could use that TSI and delete the fx combos and controll, and map it how you want.

Well, I didn't end up mapping it to that, but I did end up mapping the footswitch to something missing from this controller. LOW EQ KILL!

I have it set to Button - Hold - Invert on both decks. So basically it kills the low EQ only when holding the pedal down, and upon release it slams it back in. This is sooooooooooo useful being a techno DJ.

I still haven't figured out to "neutralize" the loop recorder though. I watched the video and I didn't really comprehend. Any suggestions?

Thanks again. I'll check it in a few hours when I get home.

Killer. I'll search for it when I get home (youtube is blocked at work).

I believe you should be able to. In your user mapping you would first have to negate the native mapping's use of the foot switch, then map the foot switch to toggle loop active.

On YouTube Rainer of the Traktor Bible has a video explaining this titled Neutralize and Remap. I'd link it for you, but I'm on my phone.
