Traktor load track freeze?

Traktor load track freeze?
Posted on: 27.09.2011 by Geraldo Ottesen
Hello all recently I have noticed after a couple hours of play When I load a track from my s4 to traktor , only the cue points load visibly on screen but not the wave form and it freezes for about 30 seconds...

It has always after 30 seconds resumed to normal but I had a gig about 2 weeks ago where it froze for about 1 minute and it was pretty freaky since the party was fully hype at peak time..

I have noticed it does it more when I plug my laptop charger back in since my laptop is dying, any one have this happen? any suggestions ?

I believe it got a little bit better with 2.1.1 meaning it would happen once out of every 10 songs instead of once out of every other song in 2.0.3.

Sometimes a reboot in 2.0.3 would resolve it for that session so it was pretty random.

So far so good on the drive switch..I believe Windows struggles with huge 2 tb drives (or the WD drive I had was a piece of crap).

When I briefly installed 2.1.1, this particular issue did seem to go away. But I had to go back to 2.0.3.

I didnt always have the freeze issue though (even on exact same version of traktor 2.0.3).. it seems to be just recent that it started happening. Its making me believe its a hard drive issue (like I mentioned, other weird things happen to this drive outside of traktor). I do have a spare small SSD drive that I could probably dedicate to my music collection. I believe SSD is probably overkill for what traktor needs to load tracks quickly but Im not using it for anything else so I guess I should try it out and see what happens.

Any reason NOT to use an SSD? I feel like I've read something on a community or blog that said SSD is not a good choice for traktor music collection but that doesnt seem logical.

Will update thread if this resolves the issue or not..

Looks like it was my drive.. I was using a WD Caviar (black or green - cant remember) 2 tb hard drive that I partioned to a 500 gig drive to hold my media collection (music, movies, photos, etc.). This gave me the traktor load freeze on both 2.0.3 + 2.1.1. I suspected the drive because I had other issues with it in general windows operations - 2 examples: if I copied large amounts of files to it, it would disconnect. or if i tried to access some directories, it would hang for a while trying to read it. I tried some things like running SMART check, etc but no indications that the drive was faulty which I found odd.

I wonder if its related to the overall size of the drive? I know windows had some issues with 2 tb drives but I thought that was resolved..

Anyways..

I hooked up a 64 gb Crucial SSD that I had and moved my music collection only to this drive. Played for 2 hours last evening on 2.1.1 and didnt get one freeze. I am imagining that if I switched to any other standard HD (non-SSD), my problem would also have been resolved.

anybody ever found a fix for this? Is it related to the hard drive perhaps?

Im using windows 7 and have my tracks on a western digital 7200 rpm hard drive. most of the time, tracks load instantly as expected. But every once in a while, a track will basically just show the cue points and not load the waveform for 30 seconds - 1 minute. No audio freezes or screen freezes UNLESS I try to load the track a 2nd time.. then the screen will freeze until it finally loads. When I do that 2nd load press, sometimes Ill get an audio glitch there..

I believe my hard drive is a bit messed up to be honest. I get some other random weird problems when copying files, etc.

Is this the same problem u guys been having? Anybody fix it thru a drive change?

@photojojo I play 3 sometimes 4 hour gigs so my laptop is dying by the end / also yes I am loading them from the explorer

I have never really though of not using the load button on the s4 since I don't like to touch my laptop but I'll give it a go see if anything changes , also is there a keyboard short cut instead?

and yes that is exactly what is happening to me it freezes but audio is still playing perfectly but The fact that it freezes is the part that freaks me out , I def don't want it too freeze and the track run out.. lol

Happens to me all the time , waveform freezes when loading tracks but audio remains constant so after awhile I'm kinda used to it

I really hope this gets fixed in the close future though because i always worry that when the waveform freezes eventually so will the audio!

mine does it too when I load tracks from traktor with the load button on the S4. The screen freezes but music keeps playing which is alright. I found that all I need to do is move the mouse a little or touchpad and everything is cool again. Give it a try

Are you loading the tracks from the collection or from the explorer or iTunes node? Do you mean the battery is dying in your laptop?
