Sherryl Nonato 07.12.2011 | nope seems that doing all the above an disconnecting ANY device i wasnt using on the machien did the trick I was reading somewhere that the realtek audio devices on windows can make for a crackle an pop even if you dont use them But i will have more of a mix toevening now thanks to you |
Kristofer Krauel 07.12.2011 | Sorry mate I never paid much attention to the scripts because they didn't work to well on my machine. You still having drop outs? |
Sherryl Nonato 07.12.2011 | how do i run a script Up date i get the following error when trying to run the script access is denied the system cannot find the path specified |

Kesha Pietrak 04.12.2011 | why not just use the windows optimizer? Might be a little easier |
Sherryl Nonato 03.12.2011 | Im using the 2.1 or something like that Might have to go back to the 2.0.3 |
Kristofer Krauel 02.12.2011 | Oh what version of Traktor are you using? There are known issues with 2.1.x but 2.0.3 should be stable enough. |
Kristofer Krauel 02.12.2011 | I have smart playlists set up in iTunes and sometimes use them in Traktor. Although I don't use them often. Can't see this being an issue though. Not sure about the new windows drivers but I've not read of any problems. See how you get on today man. Hopefully we've nailed it!! |

Kristofer Krauel 01.12.2011 | Yeah mate get rid of that dell centre if you're not using it. It's things like that which always run in the background that cause the problems. When you say you kept most settings like I said except firewall Internet and sound what do you mean? And its no problem at all about helping you out. I had a massive amount of help from 2 other guys on this community when I got my s4 so it's only fair I do my bit!! ;-) (shout out to Smittten and Jonathan Blake) |
Sherryl Nonato 01.12.2011 | hey mate did all that and it seemed to be going fine untill I believe my dell centre thing kicked in an make it freeze I might uninstall it or figure out how to block it. Will try to play around with it more. I used the latency setting checker in the S4 control panel and didnt get a spike over 400 I kept most the setting like you said except the firewall, internet, sound, I also left these changed will this be bad for my computer Enable DMA (Direct memory access) on each IDE channel Set processor scheduling to "Background services" Did you disable any of the windows services? Thanks for slowly helping btw PS just updated the S4 driver to 3.0.2 will see if this helps aswell |
Sherryl Nonato 30.11.2011 | Thanks mate! I only use my laptop for Itunes, Traktor, Internet An maybe some minecraft if im bored. Ill try the perminate fix then go through each of the steps. Also what S4 control settings are you using like the buffer size etc? |
Kristofer Krauel 30.11.2011 | Ok... first do the actions on this site to optimize windows for audio: http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/...le.php?id=1071 The above should be permanent adjustments - well they were for me at least. I didn't use my laptop for anything other than Traktor and internet browsing so these didn't affect my everyday use. These next steps are the exact steps i took every time i used my laptop with Traktor: 1 - windows key + x (brings up windows utility centre) - use this to "turn wireless off" 2 Turn off firewall (whether windows or external) - i had McAfee and had to go into the McAfee application to turn firewall off. 3 - control panel>classic view>performance information and tools>adjust visual effects>tick custom and uncheck every box. 4 - control panel>classic view>performance information and tools>Advanced tools>open task manager>services tab>services>Stop any firewall services (for me it was anything related to McAfee) you may be able to skip this if not using other firewall. I just know McAfee was overly intrusive so i had to shut down every related process) 5 - Control panel>device manager in device manager disable the following devices: - expand batteries and right click ACPI and disable (this disables battery management system so you need to ensure you always run on mains power once this is disabled). - expand network adapters and right click on the wireless adapter and disable - expand sound, video & game controllers and right click and disable laptop audio card (assuming you are using a separate audio card for Traktor) and thats it!!! I know this may seem long winded but honestly these 5 steps take all of 1-2 minutes tops to complete. Just ensure you reverse these 5 steps once you quit Traktor and you wish to go back to normal laptop mode. Sorry if this is a bit of an idiots guide but i am not computer savvy and had to take these exact steps cos i knew no different. Not sure if you are aware but there are windows scripts available in this community that shut down all unnecessary processes automatically for you so you may want to give those a try if the above doesn't work. Let me know and how this turns out and i can try to assist a little more if necessary. |
Kristofer Krauel 30.11.2011 | Don't do anything drastic like that just yet. You can get your system working like a boss. You just have to make the right tweaks. With my windows machine I had it down to 4 simple process changes to get it performing rock solid!! I could do an 8 hour gig with not one single glitch!! Let me get home from work later and I'll type out every step I used to take. Don't fancy typing it all out on my iPhone though so will need to be later when I'm back home. |
Sherryl Nonato 30.11.2011 | Update. I did the following so far Checked Dell website and there are no driver or BIOS updates available for my current Laptop. I also checked my graphics card, Also no update. An I turned my windows automatic updates off, Thats all I did for the update side am I missing anything Downloaded ASIO4ALL but was told to use the Traktor S4 as the soundcard. I didnt disable any of the devices like bluetooth an WLAN card yet. But I did have them all turned off when I was in traktor. For energy options I did the following and changed the Hard disc, Sleep, Display, Processor power management, I also changed the High Performance settings. And I disabled the power USB ports. These are all the changes that I had make an was still getting the audio spikes, When using the checker in the system tools in the S4 control panel. At the moment the best way to play is to have multi core unticked. Process buffer is 256. Usb buffer was on 4. I dont know what else to do then, Either sell my dell an get a mac. Or sell the S4 an go back to CDJ's Any help would be great. Should I try tracker 2.03 or something? |
Sherryl Nonato 29.11.2011 | Ok ill try select the S4 one an close all the un needed applications an see if i can get this working. If not I might have to go down to the version before 2.1.1 I was reading that the realtek drivers which are in my laptop are really bad for traktor? But that shouldnt matted as im using the soundcard from the S4 right? |

. Such a hassle having to do all this, then remember to turn it back on once I want to use the internet and things like that again Ill close applications toevening . An give a update. What soundcard should i be using in the traktor setting? The S4 one or the ASIO one? Im a bit confused. Kind of wish i kept my mac |
Kristofer Krauel 29.11.2011 | You followed the windows optimising tips that are in the S4 community
? If not then make sure you disable unnecessary processes, turn off battery manager, disable wifi internet connection and disable your firewall and any internet security software. This should stop drop outs without needing to increase your latency any further. |
Sherryl Nonato 29.11.2011 | should i use the asio4all or the s4 option i get within traktor? |
Sherryl Nonato 29.11.2011 | I didnt have anything selected, I guess I was just using the S4 soundcard i thought I believe all my drivers are all up to date |
Sarai Suchman 29.11.2011 | What soundcard are you using? Update to the latest drivers and increase your usb buffer size may help with audio dropouts |
