ableton into S4 using jack router
Posted on: 16.12.2011 by Melissa Westerhouse
I have used jack router to send my ableton tracks into c+d of my S-4. I cannot seem to route the audio from Traktor to the s4 though. I dont see it in the jack audio menu and if I change it in Traktor I cannot route the audio from my Ableton to it.

Any Ideas?

I ended up just taking a mini jack from my laptop and run it in to one of the channels on the S4 works a treat.

OK... after lots of community reading and about 8 hours of working on it. I have gotten it to work with soundflower. not jack. BUT soundflower is not stable and after about 15 mins or so it gives terrible feedback and needs to be reconnected... ableton into traktor with two tracks... awesome. MIDI is a bitch to sync, but I juat want to scratch over my tracks for now. so here is how it is set up right now (working but not stable) ableton into soundflower, soundflower into tracktor, and tracktor into soundflower. soundflower into the s4. soundflower works because it separates traktor and the s4. jack sees traktor and the s4 and one unit. SOOOO it CAN happen, I just have to figure out how to stabilize it.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. Do you want to route 2 channels in Ableton to C & D but have audio from Traktor on A & B? If you're on a mac the easiest way is to create an aggregate audio device combine the S4 soundcard with soundflower. If you selected the S4 first when creating the aggregate device then your first 4 inputs will be the S4 and the rest are soundflower. Then select the 5-8 inputs for decks C & D. Then change the deck mode for C & D to external input and you should be all set. You can change the decks back to internal mode while you play if you still want to use traktor decks c or d.

Alternatively you could route all four decks from traktor audio through ableton. The downside is you have to use the S4 in midi mode to control the channel and cross fader in ableton.

yea, I have been doing that for awhile, I just got really excited about having two faders for ableton.
