Some common use questions about the S4
Posted on: 22.12.2011 by Kellie Trutna
Hey,
This community has helped me finally get it up and running (what looks like) properly....

But using the gear i have some questions, probably more on the wierder things i couldn't work out or find an answer to....

1) I can't seem to get the mic to work when i plug it in the back, is there something i have to change (from the standard settings 2xDex/2xSamples)

2) On the sample deck if i have a loop/sample loaded on to one of the sample buttons, i can hi LOOP-out and it will double the length of it, that works, but only on one of the decks (C) can i also press LOOP-in to make is shorter. Any thoughts on why this might be?

3) Is it possible to save cue points and such for songs, everytime i load they seem to be gone. Also would be good if i didn't have to analyse each song every time i open Traktor.

4) Whats the biggest amount of tracks that traktor likes to have loaded? I'm playing a NYE gig but i don't plan my sets out so i would like to load up a crap load of songs and pre-analyse them (see #1 & #3)

5) Whats the trick to assigning a loop to a sample deck but keeping it in 'time' with the song i sampled from. I don't mix with Sync, Quart or Snap. Should i use snap?

Thanks in advance you guys have been great already. Loving this S4

Yeah it seemed wierd came across it by acciedent actually, will restart and try again just found out as i was posting so thought to include it. Drivers are fresh, was using power adapter.

The Traktor Bible is also a great resource, I highly recommend purchasing it.
Not even sure about beat gridding but the track was a basic 4x4 so should of been fine, will test more and see how it goes. Also i have a feeling the whole deal just runs a bit buggy on my comp.

I had a look for the samples questions #2 & #5 but either i don't understand or i couldn't find it. Was reading the manual a lot trying to get traktor working, haha.

Answers in red below...I'm not sure on some of the questions though. I don't mess with sample decks too much.

I've never used the mic, maybe assign one deck to live input?

It sounds like you may need to check your settings. I have mine set up to only analyze tracks that I import to traktor. This also includes listening to the track when I'm browsing. Anything you listen to when you browse gets added into your track collection. Everything in your track collection should have cue points stored, etc. If you're pulling the song from itunes or from a folder on your computer each time, it might not store that information.

4) Whats the biggest amount of tracks that traktor likes to have loaded? I'm playing a NYE gig but i don't plan my sets out so i would like to load up a crap load of songs and pre-analyse them (see #1 & #3)

Once the song is loaded into your track collection you shouldn't have to reanalyze it. I have close to 1000 tracks in my track collection...again, make sure traktor isn't auto analyzing when you open traktor and that it doesn't auto import from itunes or anything.

5) Whats the trick to assigning a loop to a sample deck but keeping it in 'time' with the song i sampled from. I don't mix with Sync, Quart or Snap. Should i use snap?

Thanks in advance you guys have been great already. Loving this S4

I don't have my personal computer in front of me, but if you are trying to use it with the mic volume fader in the front of the S4, you need to go to the input routing menu and assign it where it says "Input Aux".

Again, this is if you want to use it with the Mic Volume fader in the front of the S4.
