Traktor S4 vs. Pioneer DDJ Ergo (Serato) Posted on: 04.12.2011 by Rosalia Canedo Hi everyone,I'm really wondering which of the 2 controllers would be better for me, as I am a completely new in digital mixing, so I have no idea what should I choose. An important aspect would be that I'm a house-music DJ and I'm used to the Pioneer interface (I used to own 2xCDJ 1000mk3 and a DJM 800). I know the S4 is said to be a better controller, but it's also pretty expensive, so I'd like to know if it's worth buying it. A last note: DDJ Ergo comes with VirtualDJ LE Edition, but there's going to be a dedicated Serato software for this controller. I'm really looking forward to listening your opinion, guys. Personally I am a NI fanboy and love what traktor has to offer. Currenty i am using an S4 and love it to death. There are still some issues regarding soundcard problems and USB problems that i still havent fully gotten the bugs out of so i am not using it out of the bedroom. |

Roberto Schremmer 24.12.2011 | lol I wish i got paid!! Did u used Pioneer ergo before? |
Ellan Kirkley 24.12.2011 | How much did Pioneer pay you to write that? |
Roberto Schremmer 22.12.2011 | I couldn't decide between Ergo and Traktor s2 since I needed 2 decks. Then I got the Pioneer Ergo. I must say, as a pervious Traktor s4 user, Pioneer built quality is much better. Besides the lighting gestures, the knobs, crossfader etc built much better than Traktor s4 and s2. Also I believe the sound is better than NI sound engine like Traktor s4 or Audio dj 4. In my first gig I wasn't sure about Ergo's sound card and I brought Audio dj 4. But then I start using Pioneer Ergo's built in sound card, it's definitely better than NI Audio Dj 4. I would definitely recommend Pioneer Ergo, It's going to be my 6th gig at the club this sunday and I am really with it |

Rosalia Canedo 04.12.2011 | Ok, so as I was told until now, I should go for the S4. I just have some friends that used to own S4s, and were very disappointed with them, and they said they're going to buy the Ergo with its Serato software, but I believe I'll choose the S4 (I really dislike those LEDs on Ergo, it makes it look like a toy). Thank you for your feedback! |
Audrey Pinda 04.12.2011 | Honestly, I don't see those two controllers in the same ballpark. The Ergo is a beginner controller. And while it is made by Pioneer, that and the fancy lights are pretty much the big selling factors. If the controller was made by any other company, people wouldn't look twice at it. If you wanted to talk the DDJ-T1 (for Traktor) or the DDJ-S1 (for Serato ITCH) I believe you'd have a stronger response. Both of those controllers are top notch, albeit a bit on the pricey side. The S4 is what it is. It's the most tightly integrated controller for use with Traktor, and can be upgraded to support time-code control. Nothing really tops that if you plan on both using Traktor, and want to add CDJ's or TT's in the future. Really, take a look at what software you want to use first and foremost. Then make your decisions from there. Most people on the community s here prefer Traktor, but there are Serato (Itch and SSL), Torq, and VDJ users as well. Software ---> Controllers that are compatible ---> Price Don't buy cheap unless you plan on wanting to upgrade again soon. |
