| S4 Mapping Question Hello All and Happy Holidays!
I was believeing of remapping my S4 so that the Filter Knobs control the line fader functions (Like a rotary mixer), have the gain knobs control the filter function and the line faders as gain controls...is this possible?
From what I read it looks like a custom tsi would have to be built as the default mapping cannot be touched.
Any ideas would be appreciated and thanks in advance! | Jerry Montella 18.02.2012 |

All you have to do go to mapping, add a new "kontrol s4:user settings", and basically make inverted controls to offset the stock mapping.
This means, for the filter knob, you'd make an assignment that sets the filter knob to control the filter, then invert the knob. This way you have the standard mapping telling the knob to move the filter up as you turn it up, and you have an opposite user mapping that tells it to move down as you move the knob up. This way the net change is zero.
Then you just map it normally. In this case, map the track volume to the filter knob you just essentially freed up.
Yes, it's a horrible pain in the ass, and we should all be yelling at NI for being so bad at programming...
I have tried this, the result Im getting on the inverted setting is the filter is just working in reverse. What I did is start a new s4 user mapping in the controler editor.. then add in "filter" assign to deck a fitler know and select invert.
Where am i going wrong here? Please help!!! | Meridith Benesh 03.01.2012 |

Well said. It is a HUGE pain in the ass, but I have found user mappings to be far superior to midi mappings in stability. Although you will not be able to make a fader or knob work like a button like you can in midi.

Thanks guys for your input! | Meridith Benesh 03.01.2012 |
