Amateur DJ/S4 questions, please help!
Posted on: 02.03.2012 by Dori Specht
Hey guys. I have the S4, and I love it death. But, I would like to hook turntables up to it and be able to use them to scratch. Is there any way I can simultaneously have my S4 hooked up with turntables?

Also, can somebody explain timecode? Is that digitally loading tracks to the turntables? I want to be able to load tracks from my collection and scratch them with my turntables.

Can somebody clarify?

Here's what the first link on google gave me:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Native-I...97-i2011627.gc

Everything that is included is in that link.
I had additional questions in the post. I've got it, thanks.

You'd just need the Traktor Scratch upgrade which unlocks timecode support in the software, and some Scratch Vinyl which NI sells separately.
Thank you so much! I have the S4, so it will work perfectly then! I will get those!

This is a DVS system where the software reads the vinyl as if your digital music file in Traktor was on the "record". Kind of like how your jog wheels work at present. You will see the file in your deck in the Traktor software, but you will manipulate it with the DV on the turntable.
The S4 has the connections you need to hook up turntables.
Okay man! So what all does that upgrade kit include? Just the software?

And thank you for your replies!

The answer to all of your questions is "yes."

Check your S4's user manual for proper hookup and calibration of the timecodes.

The timecode is essentially just a 2khz test tone. The computer uses the changes in that tone to control the mp3's on your hard drive.
