S2 - internaction with PC's soundcard or Traktor Audio 6?
Posted on: 03.03.2012 by Rodolfo Victorin
Hi all

I'm sorry for the long post - I'm new to digital DJing.

I am looking to buy an S2, but I hope someone can help me get my head around how the S2 interacts with the PC's soundcard, and/or with an external card like the NI Traktor Audio 6.

- I have a pair of Technics 1210s and a battered Vestax PMC15 mixer.
- My PC has an integrated soundcard on the motherboard which has been turned off in BIOS.
- My PC has a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro 7.1 soundcard on a PCI slot. This soundcard has an external interface box (attached directly to the back of the card, not via USB) which has various inputs and headphones jack.
- My only speaker system at the moment is a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system which is connected to the back of the creative soundcard.
- I also send optical audio from the Creative's external interface to the TV.

I would like to get rid of the Vestax mixer, and use the S2 for mixing between MP3/MP3, turntable/turntable, MP3/turntable. 4 deck is not important and I can't afford an S4.

Question Set 1:
- If I use the S2 to mix MP3/MP3, and want to use the phones socket on the S2, does the audio only output from the S2's output sockets, or will my PC output it through my normal 5.1 speaker system as well? (If I can only use the S2's outputs it's not a deal breaker, as the 5.1 speaker system has one input on its volume controller that I can use to port the audio from the S2's output to the speakers without going through the PC.)

Question Set 2:
- The cheapest option for using the S2 to mix turntables, is to connect my turntables via a pair phono pre-amps, like the Behringer PP400's, to the inputs of my Creative soundcard's interface inputs.
- Someone has told me that to use these inputs I will have to give up on using the S2's own soundcard, and so I will have to plug my headphones into somewhere on the PC's soundcard?
- Can anyone recommend a better option for cheapish phoo-pre-amps, preferably a dual one so one box could handle both decks?

Question Set 3:
- Someone has suggested getting the turnables into Traktor using a Native Instruments Audio 6 external soundcard. This would cost about
