Use the S2 with other mixers
Posted on: 03.04.2012 by Dominque Strosser
Oh so I got an S2 and I was wondering a few things.

Can I hook it up to the aux port of and NS6 - NS7 and be able to use my laptop and mix with traktor?
Can I hook it up to a Club mixer DJM 850-2000 aux ports and be able to use it????

Any help with possible setups like this will be a great help or do I have to buy a anything else other than cables.

No worries, I just had a quick look at the back of an NS6, all four channels have a line-in, so as long at the resident has a spare channel (and doesn't mind of course ), then you can use some RCA cables from the back of the S2 directly in to the free channel, making sure the switch is set to LINE (not PHONO).

Set the output volume from the S2 (Main and Output Level) to around 50% to ensure the input levels to the NS6 aren't clipping when the S2 faders are at MAX, also allow some headroom for EQ adjustments - you should be able put the NS6 volume fader (on the channel the S2 is connected to) to MAX without redlining. You can then adjust the S2 Main output to increase if the sound levels are a bit low.

My way of explaining input and output levels to a mate I was coaching once was; an amplifier does just that > less in, more out NOT more in, less out. Stick with this and it's difficult to go wrong, no one likes to hear audio clipping and distortion, least of all the club owner!

Cheers.

I presume you are looking to simply run the audio from the S2 through another device (mixer/controller) and out? If so, then it's standard audio routing which works for all audio gear - simply route the S2 audio out to a spare mixer channel (audio in), the same principle works for routing to a controller (NS6 etc) assuming it accepts external audio in.

I really need to know I want to start using my S2 out and I need to know what are all the things that I may need. Especially when setting up I don't want to be caught with my pants down.
