iTunes for Traktor Pro 2?
iTunes for Traktor Pro 2? Posted on: 29.03.2012 by Garfield Scheurich I recently bought a Macbook Pro to run Traktor Pro 2. I plan on getting a Kontrol S2 in two weeks. All of my music is already on iTunes, and before I spend too much money on more iTunes, i'm wondering is this the best route to go with Traktor? What hosts are all you Traktor DJs using to get your music? | |
Garfield Scheurich 29.03.2012 | I recently bought a Macbook Pro to run Traktor Pro 2. I plan on getting a Kontrol S2 in two weeks. Chuck Peretto 01.05.2012 | I use iTunes also, and so far I've had good results though I have not yet tried to import artwork. What I have noticed though is I have bit rates of "0" on all tracks imported. Fortunately, I do know all the bit rates of my tracks, but even so, I cannot even edit them in Traktor. My tracks are all m4a. Anybody got any suggestions? |
BOUVIER Pascal 30.04.2012 | I couldn't imagine using anything other than iTunes to organise my music? Everything goes into there, organise, rate, playlist. Then just hi up Traktor, grab a playlist and pop it on the playlist shortcut section. I thought about using the import all new music on startup thing. Not all my music is 'DJ' music as such. Every now and then I'll download an album or whatever that just needs to go onto my iPhone. Not needed for Traktor at all. It's this reason I keep everything in iTunes. Also strongly agree with kevin mcdonough. iTunes for Mac is beautiful. Just cracked open my 95GB library in 4 seconds. Smooth playback, doesn't affect machine performance. Everything it should be. |
Classie Alvizo 30.04.2012 | hey Also one for using iTunes to organise things. When you have a huge music collection (as most DJ's do ) on the PC its a fairly tragic and frustrating experience trying to use it, slow and buggy and tends to "lose" a few songs every now and then that end up needing re-downloaded, so I avoid it like the plague and use J River for all my music and TV/Flim etc on my big main PC desktop and all my Windows Lappys. But the mac version is fairly usable and bearable, is quicker to listen to large groups of tracks and skip through rather than having to load them into preview player or a track deck, it does a good job of keeping all of the music organised and tidy if you set it to make copies of new tracks in the library and tick keep organised by artist, and it has the advantage of showing right up in the Traktor folders/playlists. So no matter where I buy my music from, I tend to use it to arrange all my music and playlists, edit tags (especially bulk editing etc) and then import these playlists into Traktor as proper Traktor playlists for playing out. k |
Garfield Scheurich 30.04.2012 | From what I have seen iTunes is less expensive than Beatport, so I believe i'll just be sticking to iTunes. |
Ricki Markman 29.04.2012 | I just use iTunes. I like to have everything clean and beatgridded anyway, so I just import the stuff I need. Less clutter... |
Suzy Carvill 29.04.2012 | I pour all my new music into iTunes. Soundcloud, idjpool and the iTunes store purchases land in iTunes. I sort and create playlists and then import them all into Traktor before the gig or as I work on my mixing flow. Works clean and easy. |
Garfield Scheurich 28.04.2012 | iTunes has been working just fine for me since I got TP2. At first I didn't like it mainly because I didn't get any cover art or BPMs on my library, but after tagging and importing my songs to track list both issues were solved. |
Arlinda Finazzo 15.04.2012 | While I currently use Traktor Pro 2 where it just access my iTunes playlists... but I agree with the complaints. You also can't make edits to comments, star-rating, etc when it's coming thru an iTunes playlist. It is best to import all the music you plan to play in Traktor, rather than using it to just access the iTunes library. |
Leeanna Ayla 15.04.2012 | I use iTunes to buy music, but I don't use iTunes in traktor. I have Traktor set to automatically import new music on startup so that everything is always in my collection when needed. |
Lanny Vanosten 15.04.2012 | I don't like iTunes . It messes up the artwork and you can't see any of it in traktor's browser window . You have to import your music (ie your folders your playlists etc..) to be able to see the artwork . I keep all my music in folders how I want it sorted and browse in traktor (artwork and all) iTunes artwork and having to import was the deal breaker for me. Anyway it's how I like to keep my collection...everyone has their own way... |
