S4 Mapping Key change and Gain
Posted on: 30.04.2012 by Wanda Mcmordie
Hi there,

I am new to controller mappings, and there is one adjustment I would love to have on my Kontrol S4. I have seen it discussed a few times now, the ability to adjust the key of a song while holding Shift+Gain. I have read dozens of threads, have been experimenting but I can't get it working. There isn't an easy tutorial for Traktor Pro 2 either.

A few links that I have already studied:

http://www.traktorbible.com/en/kontr..._encoders.aspx
http://www.djranking s.com/2008/12/2...ore-controlls/
http://www.djranking s.com/2009/03/2...ini-modifiers/

I also found a TSI file for this, but for older versions of Traktor.
Like I said, I am new to the mapping world, can somebody help me?

I believe there are plenty of people who are searching for a tutorial or an TSI file.

Thanks in advance,

I have also seen this tutorial on traktor bible to disable the S4 gains encoders.
I'm also using the autogain function of Traktor so there is normally no use of these knobs I agree.
But given that I'm EQing my songs for my transitions or for others things, it might be better to keep these knobs mapped by default because one need usually to change the gain after EQing no ?
Let me kno what do you believe.
Thanks you

thanks for the quick reply.
I get a new device instead of the config inserted in the standard one.

I also tested the config (without my normal settings, the key adjustment only ) and it seemed that when I change the Key with the gain knob, the gain will also adjust. Is this fixed when I have your config inserted into the default one?

What I mean is Add -> Import (don't use the IMPORT) button at the bottom of controller manager

Hi zong, thanks for uploading the config. With 'small import path' you mean your config should be inserted in the standard config right? I can't get that done, by importing it through Controller Management, not with Import at the bottom or with 'Device' - Add.... Import.
I am sorry for my knowledge here.

I'll take a look at it when I've got my S4 back, as soon as possible

Gain knobs control Key.tsi

edit - USE SMALL IMPORT PATH

I agree with you Jerome, I use autogain as well, but it would be nice to keep the ability to adjust the gain and also use the knobs to control the key of your songs.

Thanks in advance zong!

My set up is working pretty perfectly.

I will post the map for the gain knobs --> key knobs toevening

Thank you Scamo for your reply, that is exactly what I want to do. I forgot to mention, not replacing the Gain function, but expanding it with a Key change function! I will take a look at your thread later.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to control the key?

You can have a look at my mapping if you'd like (link in my sig). Take a look at the Builder version. It will show you how to reassign a function to the channel gain knobs using the shift button. I use the gain knobs to change the modifiers 1,2 and 4 and 5 for the effect mode selection.

I am also planning to add an effect mode that raises (or lowers) the key to raise the energy of a track. That is why I was wondering why you need it.

Please post if you succeed! I will be experimenting as well.

I'm trying to do this as well. The approach I tried was to map Key to Gain knobs and set Gain to 0 and 0. However, when adjusting that knob, gain AND key both change.

I might try with a modifier toevening or something.
