Using cdjs with traktor s4 as mixer
Using cdjs with traktor s4 as mixer Posted on: 14.06.2012 by Le Gangelhoff I am in the process of buying a pair of cdjs, i know that the s4 has its soundcard and i was wondering how i would go about running a pair of cdjs through it using it as a mixer. Any specific model i should be shooting for? I was looking at the 800s and i was wondering if that was ok. Also would i be able to use it as a standalone mixer or would i have to be using traktor pro scratch along with my laptop. Any information is much needed and appreciated since i am about a click away from buying them. Thanks djtt =D | |

Le Gangelhoff 23.06.2012 | nvm i got it guys loll |
Le Gangelhoff 23.06.2012 | I mean where is live mode? |
Le Gangelhoff 23.06.2012 | So now that i have my cdjs in hand what is the appropriate method for using them on live mode, just plugging the rca cables into the channels c and d and setting it as live? |
Erica Charvet 17.06.2012 | I've used my S4 with a pair of CDJ800's. It was fun and offered better control than the jog wheels. But I don't really find that they add enough to my setup to ever warrant bringing them. |
Arla Seniw 17.06.2012 | Think its more suitable for Club dj's, turn up and current dj rocking on cdjs, plug in the audio * and you laptop, insert timecodes and off you go.. being able to use all of traktors software. |
Estella Waber 15.06.2012 | i never understood this - why would you use cdjs with timecode? you might as well either burn off your tracks to cd or just stick with internal traktor and plug straight into a mixer channel. timecode vinyl at least lets you scratch your tracks and get a lot more hands on with your mixing, but timecode cd is halfway between both worlds without offering the best of either. |
Nedra Fresneda 14.06.2012 | No worries |
Le Gangelhoff 14.06.2012 | thanks for your help man, appreciate it =D |
Nedra Fresneda 14.06.2012 | Yup |
Le Gangelhoff 14.06.2012 | thanks man and cdj 800 mk2s work fine for this? |
Nedra Fresneda 14.06.2012 | By using timecode you control Traktor with your cd players, in live mode you use music burned on cds or usb sticks and Traktor just acts as a mixer. Scout the CDJ and Vinyl subcommunity
for recommendations, there are a bunch of threads on the matter. You only need to upgrade if you want timecode capability, it's irrelevant in the second case. |
Le Gangelhoff 14.06.2012 | ok and are there any specific models that i need to be looking for, like what are the difference between the 800 and 350s? and what exactly is running it through live mode. also i would need to upgrade to scratch pro since i only have traktor pro 2 right? sorry for so many questions this is all still very new to me, also what would be the difference between using them with timecode or live mode? |
Nedra Fresneda 14.06.2012 | You can use them with timecode (if you buy the appropiate upgrade kit) or run the decks through Traktor in live mode. THE KONTROL S4 IS NOT A STANDALONE MIXER, it's just a controller. |
