Urgent for tomorrow night! setting up S4 in the club
Posted on: 04.07.2012 by Zulma Ramji
hey guys - quick change of plans and i want to use solely my S4 in the club. How do i go about plugging it in if the have CDJ currently?

at home i have speakers running through an AMP so i only have RCA cables going into very left two (red/white) MAIN OUTs. They wouldn't have different cables for different channels, would they? how would i set it up then?

What are the other (black colored - i believe its 1/4inches?) MAIN OUTs ports for? Monitors?

I need it for tomorrow so any quick help is appreciated! Thanks!

Having top of the line, quality, and time tested gear provided to you, and then unplugging it and laying a cheap, all-in-one controller on top of it, is a big pet peeve of mine, but I wont hold it against you. If you gig out with your S4, there are 3 cables you should always bring; 1) pair of RCA's 2) Pair of 1/4" Mono TRS 3) Pair of 1/4" Mono TRS to XLR male. With those 3 cables you should be able to plug into any system.

The 1/4" TRS outs on S4 are just another pair of Main outs on the S4, only difference between them and RCA Main outs is the TRS Main outs are balanced and the RCA's are unbalanced. Like Ksandvik said, you should be able to just plug into a mixer channel with RCA cables, and unplugging the RCA's out of the back of the CDJ and plugging them into your S4, like Ksandvik suggested, is a simple way of plugging into an unused mixer channel.

Flip out and use one of the CDJ RCA cables for your S4. If they object for this, they should have another RCA input for your S4 and use another RCA cable. If not then use the 1/4 cable, you just need one and configure it for mono and plug it into a 1/4 connector in the mixer or whatever they provide. If all they have are XRLs inputs then you need to get a 1/4 to XRL cable (Guitar Center and similar places should have them.)

If all this does not make sense, you have plenty to learn concerning going out on gigs to unknown configurations.
