I am dead set on finally buying a solid laptop this week to get mobile and have done some looking around and landed on this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-EliteBook...6fa19ab0#rpdId

Hoping it will last for several years and it believe it looks good. So what do you guys believe? Good specs, price n whatnot?

display 14" LED-backlit HD BrightView (1366 x 768)
CPU / processor Intel

I'll test it right away as soon as I get home around 5:30 - 6:00 PM. I honestly believe Lenovos are overpriced, and ASUS consistently gives you better value. You should lurk slickdeals to try and see if something pops up. The Lenovo is nice, but it's not something extraordinary IMO.

Specs are available here. You should be fine USB-wise.

Okay. It didn't work with my ASUS USB 3.0 but it worked in my desktop's USB 3.0 (custom build).

Go with the Lenovo!

That isn't bad either.

plus i see in the galley, 2 blue usb inputs and 2 black inputs. Suppose one is the 3.0

Really am looking at getting this one. Decided to dial the budget back, get an external hard drive with it and start looking at PAs

Specs say 2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0, they're just a little hard to find.

I'm going to have to burst your bubble again here...the specs don't mention the USB version at all, although one of the reviewers says that "USB 3 is too cool for words" -- so it looks like 3.0s again.

There's no physical difference, just some USB ports are designated USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. Obviously, the 3.0s are newer/faster/better (or supposed to be).
The HP laptop has 2x USB 2.0 ports, and 2x USB 3.0 ports, whereas the ASUS has 4x USB 3.0 ports -- so what I'm saying is, if you have any trouble with the 3.0s, there's no alternative, whereas in the HP, you can always jack it in another slot and see if it works if you have any problems. I'll let you decide for yourself how important you feel this is:

There is just one word of warning I'd like to give though, and that's about the USB 3.0 ports; some people (myself included) have said that they don't always play nice with Native Instruments audio interfaces (I dont know about other devices) - they blue-screened my PC when using an Audio 2, but worked fine in the USB 2.0 slot. Im not sure how widespread this problem really is though. But it happened to me and it's happened to others.
To be honest I'm not sure the difference between the two. but it does have 4 usb ports, which is handy considering I would like to use controller, F1 and launchpad together

It's the screen that's going to be the decider - a whopping 17" screen is extremely tempting and will probably pay off but you always end up paying a premium when it comes to screens (I use a regular 15"/1366x768 and even two decks feels cramped when you factor in the browser) - it's really up to you if it's worth the cash. If you're going to spend $1100 odd anyway, are you prepared to fret over another $100?
Well I set a budget of up to 1500 plus I believe the larger screen would be nice, but I also need to buy some Pa's without breaking the bank too ha

Both are absolute BEASTS! I'd love to get my hands on either one.

Always go for the bigger HD, though. Empty space on a drive is as important as overall capacity You computer will run better with more empty space on it...

The problem is not the screen size, it's the resolution or number of pixels on the screen.
Ingrid Skelnik
18.02.2013
This has been suggested instead for djing and production.

thanks for all the input, after looking I agree about the screen size and i'll to find larger first.

Also wanted to ask what do yall believe about the difference between the 250GB SSD and the 500GB SSD? All i plan on using this for is djing and some production. On some models it's a $100-$300 difference in prices between the two...havent bought an SSD before, just know it's supposed to be better, but do I really need the 500GB?
Doreen Schurle
17.02.2013
Agreed, you want a 1080p display really for Traktor.

Also worth noting is that the GPU in this one sucks, the Intel HD 3000 is PAINFULLY slow; not an issue if you're just DJing with the machine, but if you intend to use it for anything else (gaming, _ANYTHING_ that requires CUDA rendering), you're SOL.

All that power yet still a dreaded 1366x768 screen. Get one with 1440x900 or better, especially since it's 14".

Yeah I recently bought a lenovo with kick ass specs but the max resolution is 1366x768 and it does get a bit cramped when you're rocking four decks.

17.02.2013
Shit display. I hated Traktor on a 1366x768 screen with my old laptop. The sweet spot is to find a 15.4in laptop with a 1080p screen. That is the sweet spot.
